Did anyone else notice that the super trucker who was making all the comments was wearing a Teamster T-shirt? The same old comments from the same old sources. He complains that "new" drivers are not worth anything and not trained properly... he's been driving a whopping 5 years.

The safety following distance banner at the beginning belonged to Swift... so who knows.

Swift was successfully taken to court and sued by the company that I used to drive for.

Their policy of governing their trucks at 62mph. (which is what they used to be governed at) was driving up our repair bills because our turn signal lights and turn signal switches were wearing out prematurely!!

And yet, they still drive 62mph with the cruise control on

Only if you put your foot on the floor... they're cut back to around 62-63 miles an hour if you set the cruise control.

I think that I would go absolutely bonkers trying to drive West Texas, N.M., or Arizona at 62/63MPH., with 75MPH speed limits!!!!

I don't know how you do it!!

I will say one thing though; those Swift Trucks could climb the side of a mountain like a spider climbing up a tile wall!!

I can say the time I spent running for Swift taught me total patience and eliminated any fragments of road rage tied to speed

My Columbia over there would pull a hill wonderfully. The only truck I've found that could out pull it was the Columbia at Arrow in my avatar... I really liked the Kitty I had under that hood! God bless the ACERT!

The dude sounds like a bitter old man that really has no business driving a truck. It's only as tough as you make it.

Fozzy 01-13-2007 05:15 PM

You guys really would have loved the 55/50 MPH limit in Texas in the "old days".. :P

Oh, I remember those days quite well!!

It sounds like the girlfriend he talks about has not yet told him that she is not with him anymore. At least not with her words.

There are a lot of things out of the drivers control, as many here tell the newbies when they ask about the life of a driver! If you listen to the driver on the video, most of the problem is on the home front. Not every driver can have a job like the rest of normal America, if they did this would be a very different business. I don't care what part of trucking you are in, its not the same as normal America!! As far as being a bitter old man, like he said he had a 14 year old son, so maybe he is late 30s or early 40s at the most. and if that's old you haven't been in the business long. I think he gave a honest view of the of what goes on in this business.
