DOT physical??

Why company's make you take a new DOT physical every time you hire with a new company even if yours is less then a cpl months old? Some company's may not but every company I have talked to do. Seems like a waste of money to me but there has to be a reason that I am unaware of.

Thanks

An employer needs a copy of the DOT Physical for the Driver's Qualification File. Doctors or previous employers will not provide duplicate copies, so the physical exam must be given again.

Simply - it is easier for them to track who and when their driver had one.

ie
Start monts/date and physical coincide so they know to make sure you have your DOT physical when and as you become eligible for other things based on your tenure dates.

Liability issues. Companies are afraid of people who are not medically fit to drive a CMV providing forged certificates or ones that are filled out by less than honest doctors or by doctors who really do not understand what a DOT physical entails.

Be real now, I've taken two DOT Physicals in the past 3 months, both were boilerplate yep you are breathing you can drive a truck, both by different DOT approved facilities. Looks to me like too many people with their hands out for money at our expense. I would not mind the hassle of the physical if they really gave you one. The last, I went in a cup, looked at an eye chart and he pushed on my stomach. That was the extent of it.
