Hauling US Mail
 

Anyone know of any mail contractors hiring drivers. I have 2 yrs exp and am looking for something other than OTR. From what I have heard mail runs are mostly dedicated drive out 400-600 miles layover in motel and switch trucks with someone going the other way next day.

I have a couple of friends at church that work for a local company. All drivers are Owner Operators, and they pull trailers all day, including U.S. Mail trailers.

I don't know if that's what you meant, or if you were looking to drive U.S. Mail trucks, owned by U.S. Mail

Sounds like he's talking contracted haulers otw he could apply for a driving job at the USPS site. BOL

There are a lot of companies hauling US mail, and depending on the lane the run can be anyhere from across town to across the country (yes there are mail contractors doing cross country teams.)


One of the larger mail contractors is Mail Carriers of America.

Midwest Transit, MTI is whats on their trucks now.

I run I-80 alot and I see a ton of SLM and Midwest transit trucks.

Eagle in Indianapolis has at least 20 empty trucks lining the fence needing drivers to haul mail. Give them a call, they are a nationwide carrier, i'm sure there is a terminal near you.

i haul mail and my run goes 5 days a week and i am not an owner operator. from what I have heard those o/o make pretty got money/ but your truck must be paid for i do not for sure but that's what i heard on the post office docks. you have what most companies wants and that's 2 years experience. i know mail contractors of America are hiring but some of those position are casuals, and the jobs are very limited. i don't know if the company i drive for is hiring and i don't have the number for the company right now. you can also try pat salmon and sons they have a lot of terminals and they are the second largest contractor.

That's not a good sign. Most companies that pay well don't have too many trucks sitting.

I applied to one of those mail jobs awhile back because they advertised hourly pay but the deal was you were paid hourly for what your run would take to complete non-stop at 55 mph. So say you get stuck in traffic/breakdown/fuel/weather/etc, then you're screwed like in OTR. When you hit the USPS sorting facility, you're off the clock while they unload you and then get another backhaul out (this can take anywhere from 2-4 hours or so).

No thanks, not interested! I ain't sittin' around for free like so many of these guys do. I'm out here to make top-dollar for my time/efforts!

coldfrosty mug i disagree. i haul mail and we get paid for loading unloading fueling, and even breaks. mail contractors and pat salmon tried to stop paying their employers for those things but the union made them pay you. from what i know once you touch that truck you are on the clock until you finish your run. if you think that i am lying apply to one of those companies and once you are hired ask for a copy of the contract they must give it to you there's no disputing it. i know for sure because i turned to job offers from pat salmon and both times they showed me the contracts
