Is there a category for thread crapper of the year?

Next thing I can see you doing is posting in a thread about best alarm clocks.

"I don't know what's best. I drive a day cab."

Why post at all? Don't you think that the OP already knows being paid by the hour is better than cpm or % rates? The question was which do you prefer out of the two options.

When I went daycab, the other OTR guys looked at me like I was one of the biggest traitors in the company

Yep, ya might as well be driving a bob tail......

I chose percent pay when I started at TMC (you can switch twice per year) and compared it to what I would have made cpm. 90% of the time, percent paid better for me. Also on percent pay, I was at the same rate as veteran drivers after two months. I didn't have to wait for my raise based on time spent with the company as you do when on cpm pay.

I quite prefer percentage myself.

Yes, CPM is more stabile. And yes, there are times running percentage when you get hung up on a long deadhead that pays nothing, or a cheap run to get into a better lane. And yes, when freight is slow, the paychecks get a little smaller.

But, If you budget correctly, weekly pay is substantially less important than annual pay. In my experiences, having run on both systems, percentage pay has always made me more money at the end of the year.

I get paid cpm when driving, and hourly for all other activities concerning work.

Between % or straight mileage, with the right company percentage sounds better provided you aren't deadheading tons of unpaid miles. Both have their own sets of pros/cons, but in the end only YOU can choose what's right for YOU...

GoldiesPlating 01-10-2007 08:14 AM

I forgot to mention that I DD get paid deadhead if over 150 miles when I drove OTR. So there is VERY little "working for free" especially since I ran a VERY low amount of deadhead anyway.

Yeah. Somewhere on here is a thread about crappers.

No driver, be he a local or a road man, should be getting in another driver's way. After all, an OTR driver needs to keep the wheels moving and a P&D driver needs to get to his next stop. Unfortunately, there's too many ignorant people in this industry who park in the fuel island, try to jump in line at a shipper/consignee, block the docks, etc. Because I'm hourly, I usually defer to a road driver because I know what he's going through out there. Hell, I did that job for 3+ years so I can walk a mile and then some in that man's shoes. The point is, we all need to be working together. The fact that you view local drivers in such manner suggests you're a part of the problem, not the solution.

Shame on you, driver!
