starting cdl school soon

well, i'll be starting CDL school soon, probably next week.. either swift or cr england. probably two of the most bad mouthed companies out there from what i've read. I need my CDL and they offer the training so i'm going to go with them. I plan on really just getting my CDL, staying long enough to pay back what i owe them for the school, then leave for a better company if i'm having problems. I'll be doing the school in Salt Lake City.

I'm certainly not going to get suckered in to any lease program with either company. just be a company driver.

does anyone have any experience with these companies? go through their school or anything?

any advice for a new trucker? i'm 21 and want to start a career in trucking..

thanks...

Sounds like you're going into this "eyes wide open" which is a very good thing. Between the two, I'd probably go with Swift. I don't say that based on knowledge of either company. I just believe it would be less stress and hassle to start out pulling dry vans as opposed to reefers.

Beyond that, if you find you want out after the first year, you may need to do some hard looking around. A lot of companies won't hire you if you are under 23, sometimes 25.

i like to think i'm going into this line of business with "eyes wide open". I've talked to a lot of truckers at truck stops. My dad is a trucker.

I'll certainly keep you guys informed of my progress.

I've been following these boards for better part of a year now, and find that these are much better than some of those other trucking boards out there.
