Truckers Radio Stations

Howdy.... I am new as you can probably tell... and am interested in am/fm and satelite radio stations geared towards our industry. Can you give some suggestions... I am already listening to midnight trucker and find it informative when they are not running "the best of" series, which seems to be quite frequent.
Thanks for the assist.

XM has the Open Road channel, which is all about trucking.

If I'm not mistaken, Sirius has an equivelant channel.

Krzysztof 01-07-2007 08:53 AM

Yeah Sirius has "Road Dog Trucking" channel 147 if i remember correctly. Its good for news/traffic/weather updates. I've listened to it a couple of times and didn't hear alot of music tho they do play music on the channel inbetween news/etc reports.

On a small side note (and forgive me if this hijacks I'm not intending to) but does anyone with XM hear a band called "The Road Hammers" on the radio? I've been listening to the Sirius in my mentors truck and can't seem to find anyone that plays them. I'm tryin to browse around to decide which one I want to get when I get my own truck in a couple weeks.

I had both xm and sirius and by far XM's trucker channel is far superior. They dont bump sporting events onto thier channel. Ya xm on dave nemos show plays the road hammers. I did origionally buy sirius for the Nascar but thier service isnt worth it just for the Nascar

BigBird01 01-07-2007 12:04 PM

I would have to say XM Open road channel, it is all geared towards trucking. Also I love the Opie and Anthony show on the virus channel. Between the 2 they keep me going all day. lol

rvrjr7 01-07-2007 01:14 PM

Hey bigbird i forgot about O @ A. Those guys are crazy and have alot more talent than that no name howard what ever his last name is. I dont care for Bill Mack too much on xm but Nemo and Bozo are great 8)

KD7MIR 01-07-2007 04:45 PM

does MTRN podcast? I like to listen, but I normally only catch the first hour or so before I go to bed. It seems it would make sense for them to do so.

yoopr 01-07-2007 04:47 PM

WLW Cincinnatti(Late night) Bozo's son took over the show.

and that very OLD station in Louisiana(Forgot name of station).

Both AM

Yeah O and A, I like them alot better than Howard Stearn. Ron and Fez are cool to. Yeah for Open road I like Bozo the best, and at night you have Dave Ramsey. Listening to him actually helped me manage my money better. . But it is all in preference I guess I love XM, I wish NFL was on it but o well. I have been with XM for a little over a year and would never go without.

WLW s on XM chan 171, if I remember correctly. Anytime I run nights I have 'em on.

scythe08 01-08-2007 01:26 PM

Steve Sommers is on channel 173 at midnight weekdays, separate from channel 171. However Bubba Bo is no longer with him on weekends due to cutbacks with Clearchannel or whoever the hell owns the station.

Between His show and OandA that's 10 hours of interesting news and radio, really makes those miles fly by. I have caught that serrius trucking show on the am a few times before they went satellite and really liked it, but don't know how good it is on the sirrius.

I think the time slot is 1-3 cst on the Road Dog channel... it's all music geared towards trucking... generally heavy on country and "trucker songs", but it has some variety. The Road Hammers generally play on there at that time. I think the segment is called "Hammer Down Radio" and it's a request show.

TruckerChris 01-09-2007 06:59 AM

XM's is great but I can't stand Bill mack. Bozo is really good but often gets off trucking topics and I listen to Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez during Nemo's show. Landline now I would never miss... 4pm rolls around everyday I listen. Good info.

xm and siruis both have websites where you can download and print their channel guides, then you can decide who has the best programming for your tastes

ben45750 01-10-2007 10:18 AM

I try to listen to the trucker shows but they have all those callers call in and talk about NOTHING (and their cruises)!!!!

Sometimes they do have a good show about certain driver issues but it's not too often. The weather/traffic updates some in handy. But my xm's allways tuned to 202 from about 6am-3am or catching the replays if i'm driving at night.

mike3fan 01-10-2007 01:28 PM

XM it is then.......FRUMMMMMMPKIS

I used to have XM and Sirius both. I got so tired of all the bull shit DJ chatter on the Sirius music channels that I finally gave up and cancelled Sirius.

Kept XM though :)

ben45750 01-11-2007 09:31 AM

Might not to have both XM and Sirius subs any more........ At the CES this week ole' Mel is really talking like something might happen.

Bumper 01-11-2007 09:34 AM

I hope they dont merge......

Because there wasnt any part of Sirius that I would want to see on XM.

Plus I dont want my hard earned money to support that bloated Howard Sterns 100M a year contract!

rigidsporty 01-11-2007 11:59 AM

XM 150... not sure about a trucking station but it damn sure hepled passed the time! :D

Howard has already brought in more than enough subscribers to pay for his contract. Sirius has lot of great stuff and so does xm anyway, both companies say all the talk about a merger is just bullshit.

Actually Sirius would welcome the merger.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The chief executive officer of Sirius Satellite Radio told investors Wednesday that he would be open to a combination with his company's top rival, XM Satellite Radio.

Mel Karmazin, speaking at Citigroup's annual entertainment, media and telecommunications conference in Las Vegas, said that a merger between Sirius (Charts) and XM (Charts) could be in the best interests of both companies.

yes, he said he would be open to the idea , but the papers have the deal done, they announced again yesterday that the deal had been made, both companies denied it, it's mostly coming from regular radio because they know they are in big trouble and they need to make satellite radio look bad. whichever one you subscribe to, you have to admit that it's a hell of a lot better than regular radio. By the way Howard got an 89 million dollar bonus because the deal called for 3.5 million subscribers by jan 2007 and instead they are up to 6 million, I guess you are glad you didnt pay any of that.

ben45750 01-12-2007 02:42 PM

I saw he got that bonus........ personally I think a merge would be great. I had Sirius before Hoo Hoo came, they have some good music channels and some others i liked.

The best thing about the merge would be that they would have a combined total of about 14 million subscribers and Howard would still probably only have 1 million and O&A (202 XM's top channel) would have 4 Million or "maybe more than that jimmy"

I don't really care how many subscribers they have or who listens to what, they both have better stuff than any free station Will ever have, you will never know how many signed up for what particular show unless you personally conduct a poll, they are all going to say they have the most listeners, anyway, who cares? I like Howard better, but if he leaves I can still hear the same basic show by listening to O&A. And if they leave, there is always Ron and Fez.
