Using company schooling just to get CDL.

I understand this in general is not how one should go about getting a CDL...going to their school, getting your CDL, then saying 'no thanks' to the OTR part.
I know you will have to pay for the schooling out of pocket if you do not follow thru with the company but has anyone done this simply because they dont have the money and/or one can get his/her CDL pretty quickly?

anybody that would do that is a very dishonest person and i would not want them working for me

Not a good way to start out by lying to get your cdl. There programs out that will help you get your cdl. check with your local employment office .

Or you could just get a loan and go to school on your own.

Find a community collage with a PTDI course, apply with Fafsa, for a goverment loan , almost everybody qualifies, now find a goood carrrier.

I don't think anyone would purposely do it...but I have read allot on here about people that have gone to some of the Lets say not so good companies,,and getting fed up,and leaving for another company.My question is if this happens will one of these other companies say one that offer tuition assistance for recent grads,,will they do the same for some one that trained at another company?

I regards to your assumption that trucking companies are all dishonest, I will say that, quite sadly, many of them are. By the same token, you are going to have to start somewhere, and I don't see why you feel the need to enter into a commitment that you have no intention of keeping.

If you are considering beginning a career as a driver, then your focus should be upon opening doors of opportunity to your future, not closing them. Following through with your intentions may seem cool right now, but it will come back to bite you in the end.

There are other avenues available to you. Even if you have less than perfect credit, there are still companies who will finance your training, and many companies have tuition re-imbursement available.

Unfortunately but many trucking company recruiters are not as forthright about the job description as they can be. Yes, some are dishonest but most just do not tell the entire story.

The problem with this method though has little to do with the company and everything to do with personal integrity. If a person is willing to compromise their integrity to obtain this, or any other, goal then what other less than proper actions are they capable of doing?

By the way, the school I attended (non-company school) does report school completions to DAC. Very interesting when I found this out. I completed the school with high marks and it is recorded as such on my DAC. So, there is nothing from stopping a company from reporting this on your DAC if you do not complete your end of the contract. Who knows what the company may report or how they report it.
