Just figured out how to post some pics, so i thought it might be neat to give you guys a little look at what it's like to be a sod hauler, notice the last picture looking through the windshield, that's my view for the next 15 or twenty minutes until i'm back on the hard road, I'm probably a good 5 miles back in the field at the time. Anyway, just thought you all might find it interesting. |
Just curious......What does a full load of sod weigh? Look like a heavy load!

Well that load there is Floratam, commonly known as St.Augustine, not really too heavy, probably about 75,000. But the main type we haul is bahia, and that's a different story, that gets cut out of just general farm fields and is extremely heavy. About two months ago i got stopped by DOT, the grass was dry, and i had my Moffet on the back, and scaled out at 93,000, needless to say quite a pricy ticket, but the company payed it. When bahia is wet, it can easily gross out over 100,000. Now just imagine the time it takes for my measly little 350HP mack motor to get that load up to speed. :o

Thats what i like to see a MACK where it works best off the road :)

why aint there no mudflaps???
|
Man, where I work I'm lucky to get a paycheck, asking for mudflaps would be like applying for a loan. J/K, but anyway that's just the kind of stuff they don't invest in, they don't last too long anyway to be honest, going back in to some of those fields they might last a month, but they're more likely to only last a day.
|
you don't get any tickets for that??? When i drove dump trucks i ripped a flap off dumping in a paver on my very next load a cop pulled me over didn't give me a ticket or anything but i had a new flap at the end of the day.
|
To be honest I'm not too sure how strict they are on that down here, one of the other drivers got stopped, but no ticket, half the time i run around with a moffet on the back, and the other half is in the dark for the most part, go to work around 4am, and by the time the ol' DOT is wakin up, I usually got the moffet riding behind me. Believe me i've brought it up just to cover my own tail, because if i do get the ticket, i'm not paying it......

you have to have mudflaps on both truck and trailer. We got stopped at a weigh station and they were giving the driver next to us a ticket for a missing mudflap. The dot officer said the flaps have to be there and no holes in them.
But the main reason I posted was to ask........ ............ ............ ............ Wheres the edge protectors on that load driver   |
