Questions for recruiters

My husband's school is going to be paid through the Workforce Investment Act. He is narrowing down which school he wants to go to. We are under the impression that he is going to get to talk to recruiters while there. Two of the schools did a pre-hire for Werner. His pre-hire was approved. They said if he could get a pre-hire from Werner, they could get him on anywhere. Is this true?

What questions should he ask recruiters/and or the schools? Obviously our concerns are mainly pay rate and home time. But, we assume the recruiters will tell you great things that don't always pan-out and he wants to go in prepared to be able to make the best decision for our family.

I'm no recruiter, or very qualified to answer your question, however in our experience Werner means pretty much nothing in regards to other companies hiring him. Every company has their own standards and policies, and from what we've seen Werner's are quite a bit lower than a lot of the other "starter" companies.
And yes, recruiters have a tendancy to lie, although not all of them do.

your husband might look into figuring out which carriers he's interested in first, and then ask the recruiters about the prospective schools he's looking into going with - making sure that they fit the qualifications for hire. he can also get a prehire BEFORE going to school.

Werner's requirments are SLIGHTLY more than "the student must have a heartbeat most of the time"

i agree with that I just talked to atlease 4 drivers attending AIT who were turned down by Werner for tickets or did not pass the background for hazmat

If his driving record ,And criminal record are good with no DWI's or DUI's he should be able to get on at a number of better starting companies than Werner . In my case I had no DWI's or DUI's or a criminal past of any kind ,But my driving record was not great at the time I got my CDL ,so I went to werner I have never had an accident ,but I had speeding tickets that were just new enough to keep from having more options than Werner ,So basicly Werner is one of the easiet companies to get on with not the hardest ,so getting on with Werner only means he could get on with Werner ,But if the things I mentioned are in good order he will not have to worry about choices .

Werner does not REQUIRE hazmat . And I was honest with them about my DMR infact I brought a print out of MY DMR with the last 7 years history on it . Werner is one of the easiets to get into regarding past driving history regarding petty traffic offenses...Now if were talking major traffic violations ,and recent or worse yet DWI's and DUI's ,and a felony record you will have problems , But for petty taffice tickets they are one of the easiets to get into .

They could care less if you find a job they just want to get you your CDL so they can get paid.

Just do you homework on company's. Don't pay much attention to the drivers on this site unless they currently work for the company you want to know about. They will tell you the truth. If you listen to half of the others they will tell you the rumors or tell you lies because they have an agenda.

Best of luck

big jeep just relaying what these students were saying it was not like i could do a back ground on them to see if they were lying to me. I started out with Werner many years ago i found them to be a good training company but i bought my own truck and went out to bigger and better things

What does your hubby want to do after he is done with school/training? Where do you live? What school is he attending?

All very important questions without delving into his background, work history and driving record.

Crete Carrier is hiring students from PTDI certified schools. After meeting our guidelines he would go out with a trainer for up to 8 weeks, pay is $500 a week and then get his own truck at .33 cpm for the first year. While he is being trained, it is on his log book. The truck stops when he runs out of hours and the trainer rides in the jump seat during training.
