Werner or UPS I got hired today for seasonell Help with UPS . Should I go work for werner go through the training and hope for a Northeast regional run. UPS expect to be laid off on or before Dec 31? What do you think I should DO. This is my first driving Job

Did they actually hire you to drive or just be a drivers helper?

I would go with UPS and hope you might get picked up as a permanent driver at the end of the season. They do hire some people from the seasonal pool. Consider it a try out for the team. Worse case is they let you go and you can get on with an OTR company. But if you do a good job for UPS you will have a better chance down the road applying for a full time spot, as they know you and have worked with you before.

If you want to drive in the NE, and you have a CDL-A.....all you have to do is call 1-800-641-4748 and ask for "recruiting". CFI has a NE regional fleet and all the miles in that region are paid at your experience level PLUS 5 cents per mile NE premium pay. All of the miles are paid as "practical miles" not HHG short miles.

If you have just finished a CDL-A School and are needing to get with a company that will further train you.... call the 800 # above, and ask for extension 5718 (Christine) and talk to her. If you haven't been to school yet, ditto.

CFI "loves" people who like to drive in the Northeast!! And they have lots of freight in that region..... :D 8) 8)

YES I got hired I have to go for the Medical tomorrow. Road test gouge
Yard Back trailer into 3 different spots inbetween trailers . took me on the road for city driving and then the highway with some heavy duty on an off ramps test speed control as well as down shifting. I live in Massachusetts Eatern Part pretty congeted. I don't Know put off Werner and wait ND SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH ups

Werner is always hiring drivers. So, I would take the job at UPS and see what happens. Worse case scenario, you got work for Werner or another OTR company in January.

I agree with greg...if you even have a chance of getting a permanent job with UPS....go for it!! You'll be happy you did if you can land the job!!

In our bldg, might be different at others, seasonal drivers can work every Christmas if they want and also sometimes during vacation coverage, if they want. Since for my husband who drives for tmc, the slow season is December and at ups we are blown out at December, maybe you can work next holiday season also. Our seasonal drivers work year after year, so they must like it OK. One has driven for the last 7 years, 3 weeks each December.

don't worry about missing out on Werner that job is always hiring ...pretty much any large OTR carrier is a constant open door as even the better large OTR companies have such large turn over they always have seats to fill . But if I were you I would be looking into a better paying OTR company than .26 Cpm 48/Canada or even less 15cpm un loaded /and 21-23 cpm loaded regional .

From what I understand, "Buster Brown" is a very demanding company to work for, and the package drivers job is very regimented. But if you can hack it with them, they are also a very good company to work for.

Personally, I don't operate well at all in a tightly structured, regimented atmosphere. No matter how good the money and benefits program is, (and I understand that for F/T employees, it is excellent!!) UPS would most likely not be a good fit for me.
