night driving question
I am soon to attend CDL school and have a question for experienced drivers. Is it possible to do most of your driving at night.I am really a night person ,been working law enforcement 3rd shift.I would think traffic is lighter at night also.Any advise pro or con.Do companies have preferences
Thanks |
My husband drives at night often for that very reason (lighter traffic).

I would almost always try and arrange my hours to pass a big city through the night.
It makes sense if you can do it  |
Driving Time
"Is it possible to do most of your driving at night." No. "Do companies have preferences" Yes. Companies want their customer's freight picked up and delivered when the customer wants it. Many have set receiving and shipping times. Could well not meet what the driver wants. A driver's goal is to maximize driving time thereby keeping the paycheck high. BOL

I drove at night as often as possible. Occasionally, I'd have to run during the day, but with proper trip planning, I kept it to a minimum.
The advantages?? No hassles with Rush Hour, a better quality of driver, far less "trash Talk" on the CB, better average of MPH, and when other drivers were clamoring to get into the truck stops, I was headed out. By the time I was ready to shut down, parking spaces were readily available, and shower lines were reduced. |
my first driving job was a steady night run, i liked the fact that there are alot less cars on the road, I always try to go thru cities at night if possible, i don't think companies have a preferance as long as their loads are delivered and picked up on time

as long as you get your load to where it's going on time.
