second chance?

Here is a quote from another thread about the one-week orientation at a company I would like to drive for:

... we had a large class. 27 guys, only 7 made it to final day and road test. 6 women, 4 made it.
Hmmm... Two thirds of the people didn't make it. And that is before they even go OTR with a trainer.

What happens if you don't make it? Do you try again with another company? Will anyone still give you a chance, if you have washed out of orientation, or later on in the OTR training period? Or is one chance all you get?

Those would be questions that need to be address to that particular company.

yes some companies will give you a chance based on the circumstances of which you left the original company.

Generally, the #1 reason people wash out of orientation is because they were less than forthcoming on their application. Perhaps they left off an accident or a ticket or something bigger like a DUI or a failed drug test. Some companies seem to do a better job of weeding out the misfits b4 they even get to orientation whereas others (Swift comes to mind) wait till people actually show up. Sometimes its just a matter of poor timing. If a company plans on maybe 10 trainees showing up and they end up with 20 and not enough trainers to go around someone who at another time might have made it gets sent home for a less than obvious reason
just to pare down the numbers.

Whether or not another company will give you a chance depends largely on the reason you washed out in the first place. If you lied on something big, it'll be tough. If its because you learned something about the company you didn't like and you changed your mind (it happens a lot) you should be OK. Washing out during your training period is more serious IMO and you are less likely to recover from it.

There are many reasons people leave orientation or are told to leave.

You have you obvious ones such as false applications, failed drug tests, or problems with their physicals.

Other issues that often come up are:

Information given during orientation vastly different than what they were told by a recruiter.

They decide truck driving is not for them

They are on medication that a particular company has a problem with even though many others do not have issue with.

Anyway, the reasons are wide and it would depend on the reason behind the "washout" as to wether or not a person could get a "second chance" with a different company.
