Part time trucking

Is there any of you guys that do part time runs? What do you all need to get a part time job? Just a CDL and a good record?

I've got a 9-5 desk job and would love to drive nights/weekends and I also wouldn't mind a little extra cash. Not to mention a chance to get out of the city once a week!! I've got a clean record, am 26 and actually already got my A CDL but it has since expired.

I want to maybe put in 10 hrs a week or so for a little outfit. Please share your stories if you do something like this.

PS - i posted this in the OO forum but I'm reposting here to get more responses.

best bet is to get a local job driving for extra bucks, most otr companies can't send you home in time to work the next day, driving from LA to Chicago on the weekend might be a bit hard too, try your local trucking companies for statewide runs not far from home, within a 150 mile circle no log book is required and some are class b positioins as well and pay by the hour and are part time, like snow plows in the winter.. you want to get out and see the country then OTR will take you out forever and leave no time for the 9-5 job... check for local work..

zz4guy where are you from. There are companies in my area that hire casual drivers. Most likely there are some in your area also.

Eastern Iowa. I'd love to do a weekend run to Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Des Moines... wehrever! It'd be great to earn a few $100 and get to leave town a little now and then. What do you need to get your foot in? Just a class A? I don't have any experience.

Might check with some local truck dealerships. They usually have a list of drivers they call when they need a truck shuttled somewhere.
