Trailer license plate ?
If I was pulling a 53' trailer with no license plate on it would I get a citation and would that go on my driving record ? I was told to go ahead and pull the trailer and if I got pulled over to tell LEO that it must have just fell off.

On my last day out with a trainer, the trailer we were picking up was missing a mudflap ( it fell off, too ) along with a couple of burned out top marker lights, he said we were broken down / grounded & called for road service. The way he explained it, anything missing is a reason for troopers to stop you & mess with you, to check to see what else is missing from your truck, to for a complete inspection of truck, to see logbook, put you out of service, issue a ticket that carries a fine, etc.

Trailer License plate?
Short answer, you'd get the ticket. Do you think a LEO is that gullable? Remember the pre-trip you did?
I've had instances where I lost a mudflap underway, follower told me it was gone, took an exit, broke out my tools and spare mudflap, put it on and was gone. Just taking care of business. Got another spare mudflap next time I went thru a terminal. BOL |
Would the ticket go on my driving record like a speeding ticket, etc; ?

answer is yes you would-You should get at least a Temporary Plate while you're waiting for your Plate.
One of the things the chicken coops will request(Demand) when you pull in besides Logs and authority is your Registration. |
Not quoting any regs here, cuz I don't know for sure, but when "I" lost one, I was told to act like it was torn off at the last dock PROVIDING I had my trailer registration slip in the little bubble next to my gladhand connectors! I think It's sort of like any LOST plate. If you have the registration slip, you should be o.k.
However, as someone said, it COULD get you a full inspection if you get a DOT officer in a bad mood. But, rarely. Mudflaps are a different story! I lost the whole BAR once (both flaps) and was lucky I made it to a truckstop without getting pulled! Cost the company $200 bucks to replace it. But, the fine is like $500 or more. Like they say... don't leave home without it! |

In the state of MO they will cite you if they can't read the data plate on the trailer even with a trailer registration slip. I know it as a fact on both. Old say -- Been there - Done that. As far a anything going on your license. Nothing showed on my CDL. I just paid the fine on both. DOT told me I could go on but I might get another ticket until I got them replaced. kc0iv |
If it were me, I'd ask for something in writing from my company that stated THEY would be responsible for the ticket if they told me to pull a trailer with no license plate.

Any time you pull a trailer without a tag you are asking for trouble.
