Driving School vs "on the job training"

My husband and I are in the process of making a career change to team truck driving. We want to do long haul driving and are in the process of applying to a local, very good, community college driving school. It is an 8 week course and all graduates are usually hired graduation day.

However, now that we have found this website, we are wondering if it would be better to hire on with one of the companies who provide on the job training to inexperienced drivers.

Our long term goal is Owner/Operator Contracting.

Any experienced advice is welcome.

Starting

In my opinion, you're starting out the correct way. While you're at it, take some business courses at the CC.
No inexperienced, school grad is "hired" straight out of school. You won't be hired until after you've completed the company OTR training and passed your final written and skills tests to be upgraded to a solo driver.
I would also suggest working as a company driver for a few years (2-5)before you go the O/O route so you can learn the business. BOL
