Is Florida exam "open book"?
 

Can anyone tell me if the Florida exam is open book or not? I would like to get it out of the way and if it is open book I can pass right now. Thanks for any and all help

No books, no notes, no cell phones, no easy pass. Gotta get it the old fashioned way....you earn it.

Kidding aside, study for a day or two pretty much full time and it should not be a problem.

Thanks Oldernewbie. I only asked because there is a sign next to the study guide rack that says to return the guide after testing and another driver on here somewhere mentioned his state was open book. I thought that sounded crazy myself

When I took my written test and all of my endorsement tests... Hazmat, Tanker, Doubles/Triples....it was all on a computer and was "multiple-guess" testing.....

Ummm, at the risk of sounding "snide"....if you need to have the "book open to take the test, me thinks you needs to study some more". :D Cuz', if'n you don't know the answer well enough to take the test, whatchu gonna do when is goin' down da road.....and @#$* happens??? Look it up in da' book?

That might be just for the regular DL. I know that it in Utah the Class D test is open book (at least is was the a few years ago, when I renewed mine) and the Class A is not open book.

I laughed when they told me I could use the Hand Book. And was amazed when I saw people fail the test even though it was open book. And then I got really frighted at the thought of the State allowing people to drive who had no understanding of the rules of the road.

As a previous poster noted, the exam is given using a touch screen monitor and is it not "open book". If anything is "open" while you're taking the exams, you'll probably be invited to leave.
As soon as you've gotten the minimum number correct to pass, it shuts down.
They want the CDL manuals returned to the rack to decrease their printing costs. BOL

I just took the basic tests in Michigan - Air brakes, General knowledge, Combination vehicles and I was surprised how tough they were. No kidding, I've always tested better than how well I knew a subject but these tests were pretty hard, here's a question I remember (not exactly verbatum of course):

You've hooked up your air lines and your trailer brakes aren't working, should you:
A: first answer was assinine
B: reverse the air lines
C: inspect the air line couplings

Most questions were either like this one where there were 2 reasonable answers or they were the "other kind" that had zero correct answers and you had to pick the least evil of the wrong answers. I was surprised how tough the tests were, I'll admit it.

I just took my test and it wasn't all that hard. Open book Yeah right.

I mainly asked because I am testing myself online and several of the questions required verbatim responses from particular sentences or sections, even though there were answers available that were indeed correct if you were not looking for a "complete this sentence exactly as written in the book" answer. I am not looking to skate by, just wondered if I should just go in and test and get my ass off to school asap or if I needed to study more.

The Florida test is multiple choice and the booklets the State provides are all you need to read. I believe the CDL A part is 50 questions and each individual endorsements are 20 -30 questions. I failed my air brakes and they let me turn around and take it again, which I passed Had i failed the 2nd time I would have had to wait and come back the next day.
