Getting experience.
 

I do not want to run OTR and pretty much every local home daily jobs want at least 3-6 months or a year of experience.

Do companies recognize running your own authority as "experience"?
Even if your just starting out and fresh out of school?

You can check out the coke guys,or beer guys,if you want to do that. Or,check into the food dudes. SYSCO,or US,or Ben E Thief. Might want to keep your eyes peeled for your local paper.

There are a lot of companies that will hire you without experience. Just FYI though, you won't get the training you would have at a school.

Sounds to me that you already have the training, just looking for a co. to get exp. but want to stay local. Thats tough...look at an LTL company, they might work you on the dock and train you further. When they are comfortable w/ your skills, they send you on P&D routes. I believe Conway Freight will do that. Also check AAcooper, R+L carriers, Wilson if youre in the SE, Roadway, Yellow Freight...Who else?

You may need to supply BOL's or shipper/broker contacts and/or names. You could also furnish them with log books, fuel receipts, etc., to prove the time you were running under your own authority. They could check to see who long you had your MC# and could check with your insurance company concerning claims to verify your experience and whether you actually were running your authority. In short, you will probably need to jump through a few hoops to prove your experience. By the way, if you plan on running your own authority, the insurance company will probably want to verify that you have had at least 2 years of driving experience. They can tell how long you have had a CDL when they check your MVR.

Estes is LTL in the SE, they offer part time dock jobs that can lead to driving positions. I believe that you break down and load pups then hook them back together for the driver to leave with the next AM. If they like your attitude and work ethic then you can move to a driver slot when one opens up (if you have the correct endorsments)

I have kinda the same problem all local and no OTR. Every OTR company wants to pay be like i never been in a cab of a truck before. I know how to drive the truck. The only thing they need to teach me is the paperwork end of driving otr. Look at local dump truck outfits and if you live in the suburb's or out in the country check out septic company's if you want to work in sewage all day they pay kinda good.
