Your first solo run...

Do you guys that go otr remember your very first solo run and where it was to and from and how was it alone for the very first?

My very first solo run took me from Wausau, WI to Fargo, ND. I had thunder, lightening, wind, and rain most of the way.

My first solo run was with Gordon Trucking, from the HQ yard in Pacific WA up to Blane WA on the Canadian border. It was snowing hard from Bellingham north. Dropped my trailer and hooked another loaded with 5 huge paper rolls, and made it south to Portland and stayed at my buddies house. I was pretty concerned when I hit snow and ice on my first solo day, thought I was going to have to hang iron for sure. Good thing GTI put new drives on for me before I headed out. Ah the good 'ol days!

Went from nashville Tennessee to York PA. to recover the truck i would be driving, went there with another driver....got my truck....hopped over to a big plant to get an empty trailer....had to run over into New jersey somewhere, cant remember the name to get a load of water and gatorade...went from there to Atlanta....the first trip turned out to be horrible and kind of nerve racking once i realized i was on my own. That driver dropped me off and i realized right then i was on my own 600-700 miles away from home with no way to get back but to run! It was a crazy experience the first time out....But I made it through that run and its been second nature to me since then.

My first solo run I had to make a local pick-up in MI about 30 miles away, made it to the shipper found dock backed in on first try, what a shinning moment......then had to pull out and open the doors to the trailer......rookie.lol

first run? yeah...it was with Builders Transport from Lugoff,SC to Miami,FL. Was ready to quit right there and then! Especially when I had to blind side it across a 4-lane. Coincedently, never been back to Miami since.

Mines was hauling a load of firehydrants from Muscatine IA to Piedmont SC. However in IA I had to drop an empty and pick up the loaded flatbed, but the downsides were that it just rained there so yes its real muddy, and the space in the yard where the trailer was at was real about 5-6 trailers to the left of the gate coming in. the space around the trailer not counting the front and back was about 6 inches. I had to pull the trailer out and basically do a u turn around and out the gate. there were trailers from the left side of the gate in an L formation up to the backfence. I couldnt strap the loads down cause the other trailers were in the way so i couldnt get my cheater bar in to tighten them down with the straps. So I did manage to pull out with no problems tossed everything from the empty trailer to the loaded one straps and all. unhook that and hook up the empty and back that into the same spot where i pulled the loaded one out from. (MAN WHAT A PAIN IN THE @%&$#%@$) pulled out hooked up the loaded one again strapped everything down and went into the office to get the paperwork. and some guy tells me he wants me to bring my empty into one of their docks. I said you do it and walked off to my truck and drove off. MAN DRIVER SIDE FLOORBOARD WAS CAKED IN MUD
