I have always stayed in shape by eating well. that is the first thing to change, your food intake. when ever I leave the house my cooler consist of only raw fruits & veggies. about 15 different kinds.nothing else. & I only drink water on the road. what truck divers need is cardio excercises, more than strenth & muscular excersises. but anything is better than nothing.

For cardio you can chase the pimps around the parking lot.

Make a CD recording of the "crap your mother-in-law says."

Listen to that, and it will ruin your appetite.

The diet part makes a huge bit of difference. When I was on 48-state, I just cut back what I ate because I didn't have much of an appetite.

However, I started a regular exercise regimen that has kept me in shape rather well. It's called Dollar General dedicated. It's amazing how unloading 40,000 lbs. of freight a day can keep one in shape.

Some things I used to do to stay healthy. As mentioned, park far away and walk. Go for plenty of walks or jogs before you pretrip or after you post. I bought several of those rubber bands from Walmart and used them everyday for general excercises. Did lots of push ups in the bunk or catwalk or in the trailer. I had tried those little stairstepper things because they will fit under the bunk or behind the passenger seat,,,,broke everyone I had! The hydraulics would heat up so bad, the pistons would burn up,,,POS!!!

and probably most important,,,I tried to eat as good as I could. I only had a sit down meal once a week. I drank nutrition shakes for lunch and breakfast and bought some of those precooked dinty moore dinners from walmart,,I think they were like $1.50 or 2 bucks. More than enough for a meal. However I did have snacks and I did cheat for lunch and breakfast, so I didn't lose any weight in 3 years OTR but I didn't gain any either.

I really appreciate all of the posts to this subject! I DO want to reiterate that I am mainly looking for insight from those who actually DO stay in shape and how they do it OTR. Yes, I would of course say that exercising at a truckstops could be less-than-healthy but unless said truckstop is in a cornfield all by it's lonesome in Iowa there are many many side roads and streets to walk and jog on near 99% of truckstops. When I used to workout at Bally Fitness here in Vancouver, I met a Schneider driver who came into the gym pretty often and he was 11 western state OTR with no set schedule. Now, I admit that I only saw him in the sauna....he never chose to hit the weights or cardio...but he was at a gym often as an OTR driver! OK, I'm gonna let this thread go and quite botherin' all you die-hard buffet jockeys.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone get out of their truck and go for a jog around the streets near the TS. I've seen many guys walking laps around the TS but not jogging. Your gonna be running an irregular schedule and your times will be tight.

with drivers running a lot of miles, it is much more difficult to keep in shape. I dont run that hard, so I have not only time, but still have some energy to work out when home. buying a real inexpensive truck for $15,000 when I started over 11 years ago has enabled me to have this lifestyle. having a lot of over head would of perhaps had me looking like some others drivers I have seen over the years, blood shot hound dog eyes, & a out of shape wore out looking body. I feel sorry for those folks who do all they can to make a living to pay the bills & feed their family. A lot of them do not live long. I talk to folks, all the time & most don't beleive I'm a otr truck driver, cause they say I dont look like one. lol. I will try to keep it that way.
