My current company just has the one place to sign that the entries are true and correct. I complete that at the end of the day. I have had a number of level 1 and 3 inspections, and couple traffic stops :-( with this company; officer never said a thing about my not having signed it.
Guess I'll jump in also.

Danske and I worked for the same small outfit. We were told to not place our signature on log book to certify the entries. There was another location on the page in the inspection part that we were told to sign.

The reasoning was that DOT requires a signature to be on each log page but it doesn't say where it has to be. If you sign under the log to certify it, then you could be held to that log entry and not be able to change it.

By signing the inspection form and not completeing the inspection section until the end of your day you were fine.

hope it helps to add to the argument...:smokin:

I don't sign my log until the end of the day. I do sign my pre trip inspection form after completion of my inspection. I have had DOT officers ask me to sign my log even though I had not completed my day.

11 years, I've always signed mine at the end of the day. Never an issue.

I guess I take this view: When signing a legal document, you don't sign it then fill in the blanks (say when you're buying a car...though some dealerships get away with it!). This may not be a document in the same way, but that's the way I've always looked at it.

I guess I could look at the ambiguity either way or vice versa.

Ummm..... your point? (other than the fact that you like to drive illegal and put lives and your career at risk?)

So driving beyond the HOS means I'm 2 fatigued to drive , and therefore putting lives at risk , And staying within the hos means I'm a rested and safe driver . I never drive falling asleep at the wheel I just pull over and grab an hour or 2 nap and roll on . My logs always match time stamps , and I always am running a current log unlike those drivers whoi run for a day or days and then fill in the blanks after they finish the run ... Just had an inspection back about a month ago in IOWA , and currently have nice little green sticker on my tractor window ... And my point is logs are not rocket science keep them up and neat and beleivable and you will pass an inspection every time ... Oh and do not fill out the log book using the spirit of the regulations or you will find yourself sitting out of service ...wink
