Hello to all. I am looking to get into the trucking industry as a driver. I worked for Ford Motor Company and took an early buyout...the factory scene was not for me. After 14 years, then they offered me money to quit...I jumped and said adios to the daily soap opera, lol.

Anyways, about 6 years ago Ford paid for my schooling to get my CDL, for there was rumors going around of driving jobs opening for hourly to drive stamped parts between the two plants they have in Louisville, Ky, but to make a long story short, they opted to contract it out to JB Hunt. After a couple of years, I let it lapse like a dummy, thinking I would never need it...big mistake.

I am looking for companies hiring newbies put through their training program, where I can pay it back once hired. Been looking online and applied to Stevens Transport, and CR England, but have not heard anything back. Called Stevens and told they were not hiring out of Ky at this time. Not interested in leasing a truck, being new to trucking, but want to be a company driver to start, especially during these hard times.

My record is clean with no tickets, no dui, no misdemeanors or felonies, no accidents. I'm 49 years old and have worked hard my whole life, just wishing to start a new career in trucking, but would like to ask for advice from those of you, who have been driving for awhile. Do you know of any reputable companies looking for company drivers they would be willing to put through school?

Many of the companies who hired or trained new drivers are no longer doing so. There is a huge surplus of available experienced drivers who are all looking for work right now thanks to so many companies going out of business, or reducing their fleet size due to the economy.

Yes, this must be a huge problem now, with so many factories closing down, slowing production, and laying off workers. Just hoping anyone out there might know of any companies looking for new drivers to send through their school...need a job like so many others.

Competition is fierce for driving jobs. I believe some of the training carriers are no longer training. The word is that Schneider has closed their school. Some carriers who have had a training program and have been mention on the board are CRST, Millis, Roehl and Swift. I have no idea whether any of them are still training.

Yes, competition is fierce everywhere, these days. Jobs are hard to come by with over 600,000 jobs lost in the month of January....sure hope things turn around soon. Thanks for listing those other companies. I will check them out.

That is what has me concerned, with an overflux of experienced drivers, would they just train students only to find a way out of hiring them, to make money from their school. I know one thing about big business, if it's going to make them money, they could care less how they can get it, especially during these trying times.

That's possible and I wouldn't put it passed some co. to do that. Iv'e never driven for CRE but if your considering them do a search on here first! goodluck
