The correct answer is:

After you have done research to determine which company is the best fit for you.

It doesn't follow any predetermined time table.

I came to this crossroads last year at this time and stayed at my former job till the spring so I could get the hang of flatbeding in the spring and summer months and not jump in the middle of winter. If you do go the flat route just take your time, The trailer floors can be slippery and the climbing up and down can be hazardous at times. And never ever walk backwards on a load!

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't feel right giving my opinion on where you should work. You have to see where you think you would be the best fit. I tried applying at TMC but got fed up with them not returning my phone calls and moved on to what I think is a much better job with a smaller company. I don't have a fancy truck but, It is a comfortable truck for what we do. I have stayed out 2 weeks but by choice to take loads that nobody else wanted. All trucks are just tools you use. Look at what benefits are offered and what they cost you. Look at their freight lanes as compared to where you live. If you are just using this first job to get the experience for a local or better job think about whether or not you want to stay with this particular company for the year or so you may need for the experience. Have you looked into Ryder or Ruan for jobs closer to you? Sorry if this post got too long.

IMHO you should not "commit" to a company before you graduate or at the very earliest during the final week of school. Keep researching your current choices as well as looking for other possibilities.
