Default I got my CDL permit..Where can I go to learn how to drive

Can someone help me with this? I went to school at CR England and got my CDL permit. I quit after that. I'll leave the reason along. I know there are to many experienced drivers out there who will know the reasons. I went on the road with my brother who is a truck driver for four weeks before I got involved with CR England to get a feel for the road and to learn and get a heads up on the business and the class. I like the business very much and really want the opportunity to drive. I just quit the corporate world after 35 years and just want the piece and quite. Money is not the major issue or goal in my life right now. Where can I go or whom can I call to get someone to train me to drive and back the truck to the point of passing the CDL road test only. I have all the schooling down and understood. Then I will go on the road with a mentor of course. I am willing to pay for the one on one attention and rental. Is there such a thing available? Any help is appreciated.

Unsure how to answer the question about finding an individual driver with truck that will "train" you for the roadtest.
Are you opposed to finding a different company to go to? Training would probably be more complete and formal. Possibly even PTDI accredited. All could be accomplished by a training company quite easily, and you would be paid (although not much, but better than nothing). At least during the "mentoring" portion.

look at local community colleges. there programs are really affordable.
i went to a program that was funded by the county. it was free, but it took 4 1/2 months and was 40 hours a week.

There are local guys who will rent you a truck to take the CDL driving test. However, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone willing to employ you without school. I don't know of one single OTR company that will hire you without school. Local jobs don't usually require school but do require 1-2 years experience(that you can't get because no OTR will take you).

Not knowing what your driving, work and criminal history is I would suggest that you can do a lot better than CRE. Have you tried Schneider, Central Refrigerated or Swift? Swift and Schneider schools are at least PTDI certified and can open more doors should either of those companies not work for you. Schneider has also increased their school contract from 12 months to 18 months. Interstate Distributor Company also will send you to school, but you have to live in certain areas.

capps, not knowing where you are doesn't help on giving alternatives. However, your statement, saying that you quit england at their school - and never mind the reasons - raises doubts as to what is going on.

Most companies are going to want you to graduate from a certified school. If you are wanting to get your own truck and go the o/o route - I would suggest doing a search there have been a number of threads on that subject.
