Default Fuelling up a Volvo VN 780

I currently drive a 2006 Volvo VN 780. It's a real nice & powerful truck in most respects, except when it comes to fuelling it up. Whoever thought of the placement of the tanks, especially the one on the passenger side, obviously must have been high !! It's so darn difficult to insert the fuel nozzle without constantly knocking on the bodywork....especially so when one wants to fill up the tank all the way, and tries to lift the nozzle a bit so that it doesn't shut off when the fuel level reaches the normal cut off point ( I know that it shouldn't be filled beyond 95%, but my tanks have pressure valves, in addition to overflow holes placed right near the lip ). Does anybody else who drives / has driven this truck faced similar problems ?

When I'm fuelling my passenger tank after it shuts off I usually just stand there and top it off. So much easier than trying to mess around with it.

Don't worry about the 95% it's allready taken care of for you as the fill hole is not at the very top of the tank and there is a tube from fill neck that protrudes into the tank which doesn't allow you to fill 100% there is still an air pocket inside at top to allow for expansion, as for filling your ride I haven't driven a volvo

Just one of the design quirks of Volvos.

My only other beef is the lack of a air horn.

Overall I think their great. I love the smooth and quiet ride, our have a kick ass XM stereo. I can even enjoy music like classical or new age that you can't hear half to notes to in our Sterlings.

Lack of an air horn???? our volvo has a great air horn ( it's in the steering wheel ) doen't DOT require all big trucks to have an air horn?
we've been driving volvo now for two months and it would be hard to go back to a freightliner. volvo's turn better, easier to back, way quietier then any truck we've driven ....

I don't know about all that now. I drove a Volvo for Conway truckload, and my closets are bigger than that truck, it has a good turning radius because of the short wheelbase, and gosh, I rather had another closet than the fridge.

It rode all right, by far not the best, even though it was brand new.

Never again in a 670, even as a single driver. They are set up for midgets, I could not get comfy in the drivers seat, and I am only 5'6".

One thing I hate about the 780 I'm running is that the fuel tanks are mounted behind the fairings. As long as the truckstops have normal length hoses and are set up at the same location on each side it's not a problem. What I hate is when I have to fill up one side then pull forward to fill up the other side. T/A's are bad about this one...

And, yes, my 780 also has a great sounding air horn in it. When I was assigned the truck the air horn sounded like someone was squeezing a cat. They replaced it with a triple bugle horn that surprises people

I'm glad to see you landed at truckload.

Their is a louder horn if you press down on the air bag, but to my ear it sounds like a city horn on steroids rather than a proper air horn. It does not sound like a "real" air horn to me.

I'd have to check the regs, but I suspect that they only call for a certain decibel level.

we too run a volvo 780 (our 3rd) and i have never ever had to fill one tank and then move the truck to fill the other... yes the tanks are at the back and not under the door's but just like all the trucks with the tanks under the door's thay are still straight across from each other so if you had to move the truck to fill the other tank you would have to do the same thing with every kw, pete, feightshaker, mack or anyother truck on the road... :?: stright across is still stright across no matter ware thy are.

Ian Williams nothing in the rag's saying air-horn. our 07 780 has two elec horns city (normal) and highway (loud)
