Default Don't do this..........................................

Someone is going to be looking for a new line of work!

NEW YORK - A truck driver whose rig was 6 inches too tall for the Lincoln Tunnel drove its entire 1.5-mile length, peeling the trailer’s roof completely and ripping off decorative ceiling tiles.

Flashing signs and officers using a loudspeaker had warned the driver, and it was unclear why he didn’t heed them, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the tunnel.

“He misjudged the height of the tunnel, and once he was inside it he didn’t realize the damage he was doing,” said Roy Guzman, the safety director of the trucker’s employer, U.S.A. Logistics Carriers of McAllen, Texas.

The driver, from Texas, was charged with nine misdemeanor moving violations.

The central tube of three in the tunnel heading into Manhattan was closed for about 90 minutes after the accident early Thursday, but reopened just before the morning rush hour.

On the rare occasions when other trucks have scraped the tunnel’s ceiling, the drivers have stopped, Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said. Police then let air out of the trucks’ tires, so the rigs can be backed out.

This isn't recommended either.

That driver knew what he was doing. And he did it on purpose.

No driver can do that kind of damage and not know.

He should sit in jail to think about it.

Just my .02 cents.

this one was fatal

A woman from North Carolina was killed Friday afternoon when a tractor-trailer plowed into a gas station and convenience store in Lackawanna County.

It happened about 4:15 p.m. at the BP station on Route 524 in Scott Township, just off Interstate 81 near Waverly.

From Skycam 16 the truck cab could be seen inside the store. It just missed the gas pumps outside. Police are trying to determine if the woman who died was pumping gas or was simply near the pumps when she was struck by the truck.

Three people were taken to Community Medical Center. A man from the Lackawanna County Coroner's office said they should be OK. Police said the driver of the truck was also taken to the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

Police said the driver was not in the truck when it crashed. It was parked across the street and rolled into the store on its own.

Police said they are checking the truck to determine if a mechanical malfunction is to blame for the crash.

im guessing he had a heart attack after he learned what happened
