Default Health Insurance

Well Im only 21 so I never bought health insurance for myself and it looks like health insurance for me and me son at U.S. Xpress will be $35 a week. So can any of you veterans tell me wether you think this is expensive (my dad says it is)and give me so insight into most of the trucking companies insurance plans like avg cost and whether or I should buy the health insurance on my own???? Sorry but Im young and don't know much about health insurance.

That's cheap compared to others. My last COmpany was 53.00 and when I did use it, it did not pay.

Just be sure to determine & clarify excatly what is covered by it. Especially with a child and if there is a ceiling on costs for each member of the benefit unit.

- Dental (including braces)
- Hospital stay & all procedures & apparatus (including casts & crutches)
- Vision (tests & eyewear)
- Extended (including hearing aids/wheelchairs/leg/knee braces, etc)

My insurance for my entire family is $491 per month, dental included. What it all comes down to is the coverage and the deductible. If you can't afford the deductible, then all the insurance in the world is useless. If the insurance doesn't cover anything, then it is equally useless.

Buying insurance on your own will cost you up the @$$.

My insurance is through COBRA right now, since I got laid off. My old payroll deduction for me by myself was about $40 a week. Now that I'm paying the full premiums under COBRA, it's going to cost me $400 for May, or $100 a week to buy that company insurance on my own. OUCH.

Shopping for individual policies, I can probably get that down to $50 a week if I accept a high deductible, and a 30% copay.

Health insurance is a big reason not to drive for an O/O. This situation sucks. I'm trying to get on my wife's insurance, now that I no longer have insurance through my employer.

The above plan is reasonable. Go for it.

But do yourself a favor and price health insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield for the two of you. It may not be as expensive as you have been led to believe. I bought my own insurance for years....it wasn't all that bad until we turned 60.

PS....I make a pickup in Coshocton several times a year at Stone/Smurfit. Nice area.

Why is it useless? :? unless it's a $50,000 deductable, what ever the deductable is, it sure beats $100,000 hospital bill.

Not if you cannot afford it.
