DOT Physical / wellness test

My vocational counselor called me and ALMOST tossed truck driving out the door for me. Wanted me to do heavy equipment instead. What brought this on was information she got from Swift about Lifting requirements.

I was all signed off by my doctors, but now she needs to reword my release forums due to Heavy lifting.

According to swift ( no that's not who I want to work for, but who knows ) I will have to pickup and carry 25 lbs, 50 lbs, and 75 lbs. Walk 56 feet and put them on a shelf 3 times each. They also said I needed to be able to lift 75 lbs over head.

Now I don't have a problem with this cause I'm currently in physical therapy and picking up 75 lbs and walking 50 feet setting it down and repeat. I do this 9 or 10 times, then hit other weights. By the time I'm done with PT I hope to be at 100 lbs.

My question is..... Is this what every trucking company does, or is this just swift?

What was your lifting requirements when you did your testing?

More and more companies are going with the "Workwell" physical in addition to the standard DOT physical.

The full workwell tests your ability to do things like climb in and out of the truck/trailer, lift and carry things, your ability to push and pull items, your heart through physical excertion, etc.

Well was hoping to get more responses so I could pass the info onto my Doctor and vocational counselor.

I know at times I will have to unload or push loads to the doors ect.
I plan on going with a company with 90 percent or better touch free.
This could set me back another month before I go to school

My current employer had me go through a complete physical that lasted all day and encompassed everything from x-rays to pulmonary function to heart monitoring, to hearing, vision, blood work, drug test, etc. good God, they covered everything. It was a complete stress test/physical/lab work endeavor.

Arrow Trucking did the pee test, vision, hearing, and a basic physical. We had to pick up a rolled tarp (90 lbs) and walk it around and set it on a shelf.

YMMV.
