I was on percentage my first year and i kept very detailed records on a spreadsheet. Loaded miles from Ohio (steel) southbound paid very well, backhaul was shaky, and deadhead was free. I was paid 26% and I averaged .37 mile for every single mile the truck moved, including out of route, every hub mile. I thought that was pretty good for a first year driver. I have no problems believing the numbers at TMC. You have to average it over a long period. A bad week might only be .28 mile but in a good week I could be .48 mile. We also had non forced dispatch and choices for loads so it helps if your good at math and a good planner when choosing your load. You have to think about backhaul and where you'll be empty.

I don't really worry about "backhaul" since running OTR for TMC has you going different places all the time so we're ALWAYS loaded, bounces are very short for the most part and in a month most are at 27-29% and at 6 months, 32%. Given that loads pay well for flatbed freight, I still say percent is the way to go IF the company keeps you loaded.

What kind of Revenue does TMC like to see made to the truck each week?
