What do you do to stay healthy?
A new survey shows that 21% of drivers are walking away from trucking due to "health issues".
How do you stay healthy while on the road? Or what can trucking companies do to help its drivers stay healthy? |
I don't know that trucking companies can do much, if anything, to help drivers stay healthy. Drivers are the only ones who can keep themselves healthy. The most challenging thing is getting enough exercise. The easiest thing to control is what goes in your mouth. Drivers can eat more healthy meals. It can be somewhat challenging eating in truck stops, but some of the chains stops have begun to offer more healthy meal choices. Some drivers eat like a horse. Portion control is one thing drivers can do to keep a healthy weight. You will find a lot of drivers who are overweight and many are obese. I am the same weight that I was 40 years ago. Eating a balanced diet and staying away from snack foods is something drivers can control with a little effort. Many drivers suffer from diabetes and high blood pressure. Much of that can be controlled with proper nutrition, exercise and common sense. There are also natural supplements that can help control high blood pressure and diabetes. Some people would no longer be diabetic if they would only control their eating and lose weight. There are a few TA's or Petro's that have exercise rooms. I rarely see drivers take advantage of these exercise rooms. Ultimately, if you want to be healthy, you will need to take control over your body.

I take 1 liter milk after dinner and before going to bed! This habit helped me a lot in terms of body appearance......

i HAVE to do a lot of walking on my job, every night climbing stairs, and then many times, handling "some" freight. then i drink lots of water or unsweet iced tea. |
Moving, moving, moving! I prefer workouts, running, simply walking after driving.

Move - is health! That's what my granny always said.

I go to the gym when I can
when I am at work I sometimes stop and do pushups, squats and so on |
To stay healthy, I exercise, eat well, sleep enough, and manage stress.
Trucking companies can help drivers stay healthy by promoting exercise, providing healthy food options, encouraging rest breaks, offering mental health support, fostering a supportive culture, and ensuring fair work schedules. Additionally, paying attention to nutrition by opting for balanced meals and staying hydrated throughout the day is vital. Checking various wellness products, such as opatra reviews , may also offer insights into skincare and relaxation methods that can contribute to overall well-being while on the go. |
This is a great topic!
I'm a small trucking company owner, but also a medical provider who performs DOT physicals almost daily. Because I know too well the impact of having a driver fail a DOT physical, I want to prepare a video discussing how to prepare for and maintain DOT medical certification. I'd love to know what topics truck drivers are interested in, ie. healthy eating tips, lifestyle tips for controlling BP, how often should I see my general practitioner if I have a certain health condition, etc.... Please share your ideas!
