Just purchased Horses

I just purchased 2 horses, 1 quarter horse that is green broke, and 1 half-linger that is 14. Any suggestion?

glasman2 02-21-2007 08:06 PM

Depends... what did you buy them for?
Riding pleasure or show?

shyykatt 02-21-2007 09:57 PM

I have horsies too- 7, with a foal on the way! Good luck to ya, they can be alot of fun!!

Mack2 02-21-2007 10:58 PM

I LOVE HORSES! My daughter is/was (boyfriend) more into them. She rides equestrian. She is great at training them. She trained 2 so far.
So what do you need help with, maybe if you ask I can have her tell you or she can refer you somewhere. If you live in Indianapolis maybe she can like help you train them  To get her away from the boyfriend a little! She is almost 17, get my hint here

Not to be picky but isn't a equestrian a horse?

The only riding stiles I have heard of are English, Western, and Dressage.

The why question was only meant to be a joke. We ourselves have 5 of our own horses and a border with a horse.

equestrian is the rider, not the horse, or type of riding.

Probably meant to say 'english', not equestiran.

I am a trainer/breeder as well. Just like any other thing you get involved with, do some research. I've been doing this for 20+ yrs, and there is still a lot to learn (like trucking I suppose!). Just remember, they require much more care/committment than other 'pets' do- so unless you can spend a resonable amount of time with them, you may need to double-check why you have them. They are truly wonderful creatures, and can be great 'therapy'/escape for a lot of people. Hubby and I have done a lot of showing/training and trail riding over the years, and the bonds made w/our critters is very strong- like some folks and their dogs/cats. Since he became a trucker though, he doesnt get to ride much, and his horse really misses him! I could 'talk' about this forever, horses are the one thing I am very passionate about, so sorry if I'm rambling!! :D

Yes as I am the rookie mom she is the pro  She has been riding since she was 10! I can show you pics of her, she is well liked and very good pose, only a STUPID BOY got in her way! Funny thing is her friend got offered to manage horses in Plainfield, IN and her friend offered her a job to help so she is pretty excited, but the BOYFRIEND will be jealous of this and stop her; watch!

I LOVE HORSE! Yes she rides English my bad! I always get it confussed! I love horses, but I like to ride not show. I wish I could show them, but I will leave that to her she is 100% better than I

horses

It sounds like you are gonna have your hands full with that green broke one...hope you got alot of padding when you get to the saddle breaking!

Roadhog 03-11-2007 12:51 PM

 You forgot Trail Riding... That requires all the skills of above and some. :P

I truly miss riding.
I will again one day...

P.S. Quarter's are warm-bloods...easy breakers. Just take your time with them, and they come under saddle nicely. Very nice breed. I had a Black Quarter/Thoroughbred cross stallion...and he was a real gentleman. I showed him for 2 years, then trained him for Cutting.

This thread encouraged me to scan some old photos to my computer. I really need to sit down one day and add lots more. I have a box full of old photos, and some old albums. I need to put them on a CD someday. This new technology is great!
Show some photos of yer horses!! We all love pictures.

Here is that Black Stallion I was talking about.
His name was Wheels. Isn't he gorgeous? My fiancee in this photo is too.
But...we never married.

I started showing him as a Colt. This is his first show...and he won a ribbon. :) He really LOVED showing and all the attendtion he was recieving. Remember to smile and enjoy yourself...and the Horse will too.

This was the first day of saddle...see how nice he was... 8)

Now compare that to my Hotblooded Polish Arabian Endurance Race Horse!!! I had to seperate him from the other horses...or he'd beat the crap out of them. Here he is giving an Appy whatfor.
He was very spirited...and I left that in him. He bucked everytime I got on him...and if he didn't...I'd worry he was sick.
We did the Tevis Cup race together.
