That's beautiful, Any idea on how expensive it could be?

Anyway, and the internet always make it seems like the fully autonomous truck are just a few days away but the reality is far more different.

Its nice, that's about it. The rest is complete BS. All info is just in theory at this point. They don't even have a full scale working rig yet. Too many unknowns and what ifs at this point with ZERO testing in the books.

I certainly don't care how fast I get to 60. How fast can it safely stop.......just as far as the current trucks. Oh it can do 500 miles, how long does it take to recharge from a dead battery? How far apart are my charging stations? What if its bad weather and I'm moving slower, does the battery last farther? What about mountains, or Heat/AC usage, how do they affect the battery charge lasting 500 miles? What if I need to idle for driver comfort on say my 10 hour?

I have heard pricing is going to run around 150-160K.

I don't see the FMCSA or DOT being ready to allow much more than what we already have for autonomous in the trucks now. They are still testing stuff that is years ahead of Tesla. Does Tesla already know where all low clearances are? The current Autopilot does not have to worry about that. Or Truck specific routes?

Lot of hype and brash claims to get some money flow to further fund a man's other pet projects that he feels are WAY more important........SpaceX..........

The powertrain seems like a good idea for very short haul things. The tractor itself is so ugly, they should include a free paper sack for the driver to wear in the daytime.
As for the self-driving part, I'll pass on that. Too much potential for a screw-up.

So there is a video making the rounds on Youtube of a working model Tesla truck doing some showoff bobtail driving. It's only some 20 seconds long...........shows it pull up and do a rolling burnout.

I can see this working for the shorthaul, city driving type vs long haul drivers. Those drivers go home everyday so no need to worry about a sleeper or a way to heat it in the winter or cool it in the summer.

The IAA show recently wrapped up and electric vehicles were the big focus.

Here's our recent article on why truckers shouldn't worry.
