Retirement

For those of you who don't have a company sponsored retirement plan, how do you invest for retirement?

I have a 401k with the company, but I also try to save money each week, at the end of the year I then make one large payment to my Roth IRA account. The good thing about a Roth is that because you fund it with AFTER tax money ALL the returns are TAX FREE! You may be able to set one up at a credit union but not sure on that. I went to Dave Ramsy's website and looked for a local endorsed provider and came up with a pretty good guy. He also streed me right on the grandkids collage acounts at NO CHARGE.

What is this "retirement" that you speak?! There are a few things that you can do. Having an IRA is a way to shelter a small amount of money each year. If you incorporate, you could set up a 401k. That would be one of the easiest ways in which to set up your retirement program.

I guess I should go to a bank and see about an IRA..

Investing for my retirement? Way to make a 32 year old have a mid-life mini-crisis here! I've been living for the moment instead of focusing on the future. My company has absolutely nothing to offer for retirement, it's left up to us workers to go take care of it ourselves or take SS when the time comes. So an IRA is another option to look at, in particular a Roth?

I got forced into retirement too early, and now I have to work my ass off hunting or fishing all day, just to put a little meat on the table. :)
Not to mention the pulled muscles trying to haul in a bucket full of these master angler size blue gills.

OH THE HORROR!!! Say it so Roadie! I've looked forward to retireing and now you tell me I have to go hunting and fishing? All day??

I've been planning for this for most of my working life, nothing and I mean NOTHING is more importent than TIME! Time can be your best friend or worst enemy when it comes to retirement planning! I don't have the numbers but it really is unbelievable how a few thousand can roll over into a BIG chunk over time. If you wait it takes so much more each week to just come close.
Please do your self a favor and google "retirement caculator" and plug in some numbers.
