Waking up and feeling "lost"

I know I'm not the only person this has happened to: you go to sleep after a long day and when you wake up the next morning, you have no clue where you are. I've literally had to use my GPS just to see where I was.

This morning was a funny one. Came off hometime yesterday morning. Ran from northern WV to the truckstop in Jane Lew to grab a trailer from another driver. Delivered that load in Troutman, NC, then went just north of Greensboro to pick up my next load. Made it to Salisbury, NC around 7pm. By the time I had dinner and farted around on the computer, I finally fell asleep around 9:30 or so.

Normally, I wake up close to the same time each morning, which is about 4:30. The alarm is always set, but I tend to be up before it goes off. Not this morning. So, I get up and look out the windshield (didn't close my curtains) and couldn't figure out why the hell the moon looked so funny. It was low on the horizon (which will make it look different), but I've never seen it a golden-yellow color with a red outline.

A couple of minutes worth of my brain going nuts later, I figured it out: I parked at the Shell truckstop. It was their lighted sign.

Aaaah, the Derrick, with that insidiously bright sign and electrification stations. That's one bright night-light, eh?

Almost every nite I sleep in the truck, I wake up and look out thru the curtains and wonder where the heck I'm at. It usually takes a few seconds before I realize where I drove to and parked. I used to wake up at home in bed and wonder too, but not lately.

From Monty Python...

"So how did you find yourself this morning?"

"Well I just pulled back the covers and there I was."

I'm not sure how it applies but Monty Python always applies somehow.

That's the one. Funny thing with that place, even though the electrification stations are 100% free, I don't think I've ever seen a single truck hooked to one.

I didn't realize they were free. When I was last there, the one I tried using didn't work. Well, the a/c didn't, anyway. That was also the week my APU messed up. I don't remember anyone else using them either, though. Maybe that had something to do with it.

Hell, homey. I dunno what to tell you about that............. However...

Golfhobo could definitely be a valuable resource for you.........Ghobo is a seasoned professional when it comes to post ethyl-alcohol/morning-after jitters and the accompanying 'how in the hell did I get here' concerns that you describe.

If I might suggest. Catch Hobo before he drops to Line 5 for the day.:p

Go Eers!!!

Well, that makes TWO of you who know the Derrick... and have been close enough to assassinate me!

I live about 2 miles from that truckstop (but, I wasn't home the night Malakai was there.)

I stopped there Sunday night on my way "home" to my G'Boro terminal to visit the little boy's room. I couldn't HELP but tell Malakai's story about the "nightlite" to the manager there. He got a big chuckle out of it.

There are two truckstops at this exit (#71... I-85 in NC,) but only the Derrick sells beer! ... or has a restaurant.

Next time any of y'all are there, POST IT. If I'm home I'll offer you a choice of meeting me... and a ride to a better restaurant... or PAYING me to stay away! LOL!!!

Smilies aren't working again.
