Clee - how's the hits post-politics?

In terms of number of visitors, is the forum trending upward or downward?

Or maybe post count is the better metric?

golfhobo 10-24-2011 04:33 AM

WHAT post count?

Mr. Ford95 10-24-2011 08:46 AM

I can say that looking at the bottom of the main forum page, the number of visitors has hovered consistently around 125-150 every time I swing in.

The Politics folder went into effect August 3 or so. So we only have about 2.75 months of data. August had a lot of activity (probably partly as a result of people reacting to the change), September had a normal amount of activity, and October looks to be the quietest month since April.

This site is odd in that activity goes up and down month by month. It doesn't seem to follow clearly discernible trends. Since moderation is fairly light here, it's up to the members as to what they make of the board.

About the same time I got my first "warning" from you for doing what I'd done for about 6 years.

WE.... only have about 6+ years of "data" from what makes this board work. You MIGHT have asked questions before "drawing from the hip."

Sorry... my puter died in late August. It has taken me awhile to get "back" using this laptop. What.... you thought your "metrics" had anything to do with your ADVERTISING??? Or your.... "admining?" :rofl:

The "question" was... has traffic, participation, or satisfaction and "inducement" to visit this FORUM (not this SITE) gone UP or DOWN since the new Sherriff came to town?

This site is odd in that activity goes up and down month by month.
You're gonna try to sell me the idea that that doesn't happen on MOST boards? :roll:

It cetainly USED to be... :hellno:

Thanks Clee, that echos my observations.

I disagree just a little about your last point. People want to talk about what's important to them and for truck drivers that means trucks. But it also means world events and politics and everything else that determines quality of life. By restricting the conversation to topics which are more superficial, management has made the forum more superficial in nature. To put it another way, it's a little like dialing down the governor on a truck and telling the paid-by-the-mile driver that the job is what he makes of it.

For my part, I still post way too often. :eek1:

Traffic to this site went way down when I hung up my badge. Admit it, I'm the life of the party, even to Hobo. :D

That's right! And, btw... the FMCSA is looking for you.

People can still talk about politics if they want - they just have a dedicated place for it, which was a compromise short of what the powers that be wanted, which was killing that discussion altogether.

They just have to follow the board rules that were in place long before I came on. That includes treating each other with respect and no name-calling.

The point of the board rules is to both keep discussion civil for existing members, but also make it productive for new ones. Flame wars with name-calling and disrespect do not attract new members.

A 50-question personality assessment asks for agree/disagree responses to statements such as I am the life of the party;
Damn straight!

I pay attention to details;
The definitive cubed root of …oh look, a butterfly!

I get stressed-out easily;
Would microwaving cats fall into that category?

I use difficult words;
indubitably

I leave my belongings laying around;
Next time I step on a kid’s toy, I’m going to microwave it along with the cats!

and I feel others’ emotions
Especially when I tell a libtard to piss up a rope. :D
