Climate Change

I was listening to some newscast this morning. They were talking about climate change and global warming. Al Gore has been noticeably silent the last couple of years. We do seem to be having more severe winters and summers. I think that it is just a normal cycle we go through every so often. I know some of the global warming enthusiasts would like us to believe that it is caused by man. I don't think that is the case. I don't believe we have the capability to cause major changes in climate. I think that the earth's orbit changes on occasion and that can bring us closer or farther from the sun, which will change the severity of our climate. If you believe in the Bible, you can probably make a case for the prophesies being fulfilled during our lifetime.

I really really really miss all those cold winters back in the mid 70's into the early 80's.

NOT! :hellno:

45 and 50 below zero for weeks? Hell no! I don't care how fun it was to drive to town down the middle of the frozen river.......I still don't want to experience that again!!

I don't miss the really cold winters, either. I prefer it to be a little warmer. Well, not quite as warm as it has been this year, but I do prefer the warmer weather. I guess if I liked the cold I would live up north. I get enough of that traveling up there in the winter.

...anyway...if you go to China these days, I guess one could make a case about pollution.
Be nice if Mr.Gore took his fight where it is sorely needed. I think the world has raped and stolen from America enough.
They want their turn at the trough, at our expense. The Climate Change religion is just a way to justify stealing more from America.

Also, Mr.Gore might want to discuss Mr.Obama's current carbon footprint with his tour America to save his plummeting polls campaign.
Maybe Mr.Gore and Mr.Obama could compare carbon footprints and see who is the biggest hypocrite.

Here you go. Gore lost his mind earlier this month, I think it is finally getting to him:thumbsup::clap:

Al Gore is full of more stuffing than a Christmas turkey. I noticed that it's now called, 'climate change'. Guess mr Gore figured the people figured out how full of bullsnot he is.
We always have climate change. Had it since the earth was created. Look at the southeast, and northeast. All those deadly tornadoes this year. It's like tornado alley has moved. We normally get our rains in the spring/early summer from the severe thunderstorms. We didn't get but 2" all year, up until the other day when we got a few drops from a little cloud burst. I do think it's odd how the weather has been different. I am not going to think for once that this man, Al Gore invented it. In 2009, we had a real winter. It snowed almost every dag gum week. I just about admitted myself into the State Hospital. Once every several years, we do have a harsh winter. Like this year, every so often, we have droughts. I do have to say, this summer is the worst we've had. The climate/weather does change. No front page news.

Also, you want to talk about something stupid! A couple weeks ago, I took my wife's car to the dealer for some warranty work. They had a new Corvette in the show room. I had so much fun with the door. It had a push button. You push the button, and the door slowly opened. My wife told me to stop! I threw a fit! It was $60,000 I might add. :hellno: On the info sticker on the winder, where it has the price, and stuff. It had the emissions information, along with some kind of Global Warming information. (on how much it affects the Global Warming) Next time yall go to a GM dealer, look at the new Corvette, if they have one. I could not believe that GM let Al Gore put that junk on there. Just how many people are gonna buy that?... Not the Vette, but the Global Warming info on the sticker.....

I predict that many many many people, will happily pay $60,000 + for an "Al Gore Climate Change Sticker".....as long as it comes with the attached Vette!!

Back when I was about 8 years old (Yes, Hobo, there was a time I was that young), my folks were adding a garage. When the trenches were dug, we were getting dust from more than 6 feet down. Maple and elm trees that were 30 and 40 feet tall had leaves turning yellow from lack of moisture. I remember that year, I did not have to push the lawn mower around the yard because the grass was all brown. Corn, oats, and hay didn't do well at all that year, and there wasn't much to put in the barn. My father sold off, far more than normal, the number of head of cattle that year because feed was going to be skimpy. For the cattle he had left that winter, he bought hay from out of state to hold out till he was able to let the cows out to pasture.

The following year, we had a bumper crop and he was selling hay.

When I do a little research into the past, I see where there have been cycles of cooling and icing, and then warming again. The glaciers are melting and exposing bones and artifacts that have been covered for hundreds and thousands of years. That would suggest that the last time those glaciers melted was thousands of years ago. And, the cycles stretch over thousands of years as well. I don't know if the cycle has peaked or not, but at some point, Al Gore is sure to be talking about "GLOBAL FREEZING"... If he lives long enough.

I read something the other day about Al Gore having a "melt down" or that is the way it sounded. Looking back, it is probably a good think that Al didn't become president. I think that he is mentally unstable. Back in the 60's and early 70's the powers that be were telling us that we were heading into another "ice age." When things started to warm up they switched to global warming. It was a way to introduce thousands of useless regulations and to gain control over much of this country and our people. Well, the last few years we have had more severe winters than in a number of years. A couple of years ago, I started to hear that we were heading into another ice age, again. With record cold in winter and record heat in summer, they have switched to "climate" change. I suppose that is a way to cover up not really knowing and for them to not look so ridiculous. Poor Al. He is totally confused. Perhaps that is why he had a melt down.

I remember that!! I remember for "Arbor Day" we planted a tree in the grass strip separating the street from the sidewalk in front of the brand new Grade School......and the teacher had us put our "Time Capsule" in an air tight rubberized box, because before that capsule was to be dug up, the valley was going to be covered in ice hundreds of feet thick, then flooded by the melt!!!

I think they dug that box up last year....when a kid hit that tree in his car and knocked the tree down. 1964 or 65 was the year we planted it.

Yeah, that's about how it is here. We did get a little shower this last Saturday morning. I had a 1/4 inch at my house. I mowed my yard back in April. I haven't had to touch it since. The only thing that has grown are some dandelions and some Dallisgrass that I've been trying to get rid of.
Most everybody around here is having to water cattle. I've never seen so many ponds run dry. Those that can still put hay out, are feeding cattle, and it's not even winter yet.
The bad thing about having to sell cattle is that, if you stay in the business, you have to start all over again. Sure you can make money for selling them, but you have to get more. It's a terrible thing when you have to sell out in these conditions.

MichiganDriver 08-18-2011 12:47 AM

We are so doomed. ;)

Do you guys even realize that you live in a truck?

Scientists get fat paychecks.
Scientists travel the world.
Scientists consult with world leaders.
Scientists have groupies.
Scientists sleep with their wives (if and when they want to).
Scientists know what their kids look like (without having to check a photograph).
Being a scientist is a coveted job, being a dweller (er excuse me, over the road trucker, is not).

I dig the down home folksy logic but I see no one has even mentioned carbon dioxide, let along offered to refute what scientists say it's doing to our atmosphere.

But Fox News builds you up and tells you that you know better than smart people with years and years of education and you believe them. Too funny!

Doesn't everyone?

Scientists get fat paychecks.

Yes, but they don't look cool driving down their road in their big truck.

Scientists travel the world.

Hey, we travel the world. Is is just that we have a smaller universe. Besides, not all scientists travel the world. Some never get out of their lab.

Scientists consult with world leaders.

Yes, but who would want to associate with that bunch or corrupt politicians when you have a world of truckers as your best buds?

Scientists have groupies.

Some truckers have their groupies. They are called lot lizards.

Scientists sleep with their wives (if and when they want to).

Some people would not consider that as a plus. Some would.

Scientists know what their kids look like (without having to check a photograph).

Come on now, drivers do know what their kids look like.

Being a scientist is a coveted job, being a dweller (er excuse me, over the road trucker, is not).

You would have fooled me. People are standing in line to become truckers. I bet there aren't people standing in line to become scientists.

I dig the down home folksy logic but I see no one has even mentioned carbon dioxide, let along offered to refute what scientists say it's doing to our atmosphere.

We need carbon dioxide. We have trees to clean our atmosphere. Our air has gotten cleaner in the last 30 or so years. There is still no proof that there is man made global warming or cooling or climate change. The only thing that we really know is that the climate does change but there has never been any proof that man can or has changed or altered the atmosphere. Besides, there is nothing to refute since there is no proof.

But Fox News builds you up and tells you that you know better than smart people with years and years of education and you believe them. Too funny!

It is a funny thing about education. Some people lose their common sense when they get a lot of education. This whole global warming, ice age, climate change has created a huge industry. The entire industry was built upon a man made fabrication.

We haven't had to see any cattle. I'm sorry that I didn't make myself clear. I was talking about selling cattle, 'in general'. I've heard that there are some that are, or had to sell theirs. I was kinda describing our conditions to Windwalker.

Thank you.

I feel for those who are having to deal with this. Much of my family used to raise cattle. Drought can make things very difficult.

Jackrabbit379 08-21-2011 03:24 AM

The droughts can change a person's life.
I hope we get some rain before Decemeber. Or before October, atleast. If we don't get any rain, we may not get any wheat sowed. Everything depends on the rain. Rain makes things go...as well as grow.

urban_buy 06-06-2022 03:07 PM

The problem of climate change is probably one of the world's major problems. The global climate is changing, among other things, due to the waste of human activity and the processing of these wastes. The planet is just choking on garbage. The population is growing, and each person averages 6.4 hectares of the so-called "ecological footprint". It is important to properly dispose of waste. Birmingham rubbish removal is the best among all in this industry. They arrive very quickly, they also quickly collect all the garbage and then it's all recycled and there is less load for nature.

Windwalker 06-13-2022 10:58 AM

The newest thing on the horizon isn't climate anymore.

Now it's the "single use plastics" like water bottles, plastic forks and spoons, etc.

For some years, they've been finding "nano plastic particles" all through the oceans.

Now, they've found nano plastic in rain water.

And I also read that the plastic in the ocean could affect the maritime food chain.

But, we're in a waterbottle culture now.

Well old friend, after thinking aboot this a bit, I just remember the scene in the movie The Graduate,
where Mr. Maguire wanted to tell Ben, "I have just one word to tell you,.... plastics....(long awkward pause)...."

I'm old enough to remember when things began being made with plastics, instead of metal, and we were all horrified.

I'm horrified on a daily basis now. :roll3:
