I thought this was...

a truckers board. The only thing I see on here any more is political debating...

Isn't that the reason for it being called "Anything and Everything"? This just seems to be the place that this has landed. All of the other threads and forums seem to be addressed accordingly. I don't see any "politcal debating" going on on any other threads on here. Not tryin to start anything......just sayin.

We try to keep the political discussions in one area. You are free to start a thread on anything that you wish. This is the political season and with everything that is going on in the country there is much interest in what is going on in the political arena. Politics is a big part of this didustra

Wow.... thanks, robertt! I never THOUGHT of that. I'll have to see what I can do about "spreading the wealth." :lol2:

Seriously, there was a discussion more than once about creating a separate political forum here, but it got voted down. Probably just another Democratic conspiracy. ;)

Don't know if y'all know it or not, but at least one other board... Trucknet or something like that.... actually BANNED all political discussion! I wonder how that affected their numbers?

How's that new truck working out for you Hobo? What is it?

golfhobo 11-07-2010 03:03 PM

It's an '05 Int'l 9400i with about 666k miles on it. Very clean though. It has a few advantages over the Volvo I was driving, but MANY more disadvantages. I suppose I will get used to it, but in general.... I HATE IT! Mostly, I hate that we weren't asked for ANY input into the whole deal. I know that's not common at mega-carriers, but a 2 or 3 truck lease operation should have been handled differently.

Advantages:

Pulls better on hills which is about half our entire day! This saves us about 30-45 minutes total per day. More hometime for me to spend on CAD (and at least one more beer!)

A more comfortable driver's seat, but still uncomfortable for me. Rather than a flat, cushioned seat like HIS Int'l has, this one is more of a bucket. I don't have much cushion on my butt or legs, so the "ridge" on the front edge cuts off my circulation in my legs. But, at least it has SOME cushion to it.... the volvo seat was like a metal "pan" bucket with no cushion at all!

Coffee mug and ashtray holder are closer to my reach.

No loud HONKING noise every 10 seconds when the ABS system "perceives" a problem that doesn't really exist!

No window tinting on the doors which is a safety hazard when it rains and drivers behind me don't turn on their lights.

A normal mattress! The Volvo had cushions over a picnic table setup!

Disadvantages:

No power windows or mirror controls! Wouldn't be as much of a problem for a solo driver, but my co-driver and I have to adjust the mirrors everytime we switch. Also, I smoke and like to keep the right window cracked. When I get a phone call, I like to be able to roll it up to lessen the noise. That's out now. Same thing about when it rains heavy.

No cab air-ride and a longer wheelbase. Every little pothole, seam or bump in the road tosses me about and lessens control of my wiggle wagons.

A very narrow and flat dash. Nothing will stay up there!

VERY limited storage in the passenger area.... and next to NONE in the sleeper! I can't believe it! It's a large sleeper... you could dance a waltz back there, but NO overhead storage shelf like most mid-roofs have.... and only ONE cubbyhole once we put the T.V. in. I'm going to Walmart to look for some kind of plastic shelf/storage unit.

NO cupholders in the sleeper! Not even a place to put an ashtray!

It's not a condo, but you can stand up in it. Problem is... it DOES have a second bunk for when we get snowed in on the road or laid over on certain unique situations, but when you let it down.... it rests about 2 feet or less above the bottom bunk! Makes the bottom bunk like a COFFIN!

Although it pulls better, it is not geared properly (or rev limited incorrectly) for mountain/hilly driving. Limits out in 9th gear BEFORE I get to the top of the hill, then lugs when I shift to 10th.

VERY tight gearing. Have to shift without making much progress in each gear. Grinds like hell if not matched EXACTLY at the speed/rpm ratios IT WANTS.

In general, we gave up nice quiet German engineered comfortable ride for a rough, NOISY, rattletrap sounding, nuts and bolts work truck! I am NOT a happy camper anymore!

That sucks! I DO know what it's like to be unhappy in a truck so I feel for ya.

TruckNet is dead. They're just waiting around for someone with a shovel to come by and bury it in the ground. That site should be a primer for every other site on how NOT to run or mod a board.
