Kenan Advantage goes Union
GOOD FOR THEM!!!!
KAG West Tankhaul Workers Vote Teamsters Yes! | International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) The workers formed their union to address several key issues. They want to receive fair wages and better benefits that reflect their skills and training. The company recently cut the workers’ hourly wage by $1.91. Workers also want improved safety, to get paid time and one half for working more than eight hours a day or 40 hours per week, and are seeking paid breaks and lunches that workers are entitled to receive. They also want to get paid for all time worked in the service of the employer, and get treated with respect, dignity and fairness by management. |
Paid to eat? No wonder this country is going to the crapper. They cut their wages by nearly $2 an hour and these guys are angry? Be glad they have an f-ing job being in Cali. I get the time and a half for over 40 hours, I thought by law that HAD to be paid if you were hourly unless they classify their drivers as seasonal or part-time. I went thru that at another job, they were able to skirt the federal wage law of not paying OT because they classified all but core staff as seasonal/part-time since we only worked from March to November. During the working season it was not uncommon for me to put in 60-70 hours a week as a Super.

Last months issue of bulk transporter had in it that KAG was raising all their rates cuz work is picking up big time. So if they are raising rates and are getting alot of work i think it is fair they pass alittle to the driver. http://bulktransporter.com/managemen...616/index.html The Kenan Advantage Group Inc (KAG) has announced that its Fuels Delivery Group will seek a rate increase of 3% for all non-contract customers effective July 1, 2010. KAG’s contractual customers will be addressed on an account-by-account basis. |

:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: THAT is what KAG get's for hiring all those former BP/ARCO drivers!! Serves em right!!  |
See I didn't know that Mack, on the wage deal with them also jacking up rates. Right on that, if your jacking up rates and making big profits then why are you cutting your people's pay? If they had not jacked up their rates then my comment would stand, be glad you got a job right now instead of complaining about a $2 pay cut. I saw a $3-4 pay cut for 8 months and yes, I didn't like it but I was still able to pay my bills and I still had a job. I was given a choice, take a pay cut or get laid off.

if they had to jack rates up they should have bare minimum kept the drivers pay the same. I may not be a big union fan but owners beware, you don't treat your employees right you'll eather loose them, or find your company has gone union.
|
It said that they boosted they're rates 3% for non contractual customers only. I think it was done to attract people to enter a contract.

Ok, I was wrong on the Federal OT law, trucking is exempt from compliance with that law.
Rosty that does sound odd on the whole OT after 8 hours or 40 hours. Say they work 10 hours today but then only work 6 hours tomorrow and end up at 40 hours for the week. They want that 1 day of having 2 extra hours as being paid at the time and a half rate even though the average shows them with no OT worked. |
We get OT after 8/40. Dont really know why, never thought about it. But I'm a road driver so most of my pay is mileage and and there is no OT for mileage pay. But we dont get paid lunches. I agree that's a stupid request. Matter of fact our hourly guys get a half hour lunch deducted from their pay automatcally so they might as well take one.
|
I want 1.5x my normal cpm rate when I drive over 400 miles in a day!!!! Where do I sign up?
|
I agree, even when I was union I took and hour lunch, never got paid for it. breaks are a different story, all jobs with the exception of one, I got paid for. Of course we aren't talking about my OTR time. If you aren't rolling, you aren't making money.

Yea, and how long before the next head line reads " Kenan Advantage Goes Belly Up"??? The more likely story will be "Kenan Goes All O/O".
Now I have to agree that cutting a drivers pay by almost $2:00/hr. is....well...it sucks! Poor move on the companies part IMHO. That kind of move only breeds ill will if not done with complete open and honest talk with the employees that it will effect. Been there/done that.( didn't even get a shirt ). Now ask yourself, what factors came into play to cause all of this?? Could it be just the economy being slow? Maybe new Government Regs., maybe Obamacare mandates? If the company was so bad to their drivers, why did they continue to work there? I have come to learn over the years no matter what the average employee has as far as pay and benefits they ALWAYS want more. Not a week goes by that I don't hear from some driver that they are unhappy about something. My usual response is ..." why don't you go somewhere else that has what you want ". The response is ALWAYS the same: " Nobody pays as much, they don't have as good of insurance, they don't have 401k (company match BTW) .....ect.... You guys are at the top of the chain and your bitching??? In these economic times??? Give me a break! For over 15 years I worked for/ran a small company (30 -48 employees). I had to make payroll every week. Even in '91 (the first gulf war ). We couldn't even buy a job. My wife and I went without. ( No kids back then ). We made sure EVERYONE got paid and the checks would cash. The owner took NO money for over 1-1/2 years. We cut him a check but he only put it in a file cabinet. Left it in the bank so the others could be paid. It paid off. In '95 we did over 4 million in sales. A huge jump from our regular 1.5 million per year. In short, I'm trying to say that not all owners of companies are out to get the "little man". Some things have to be done to ensure the survival of the company. |

As for paid lunches, I don't think that makes sense either. Paid breaks, I've heard of, but not lunch breaks. |
