Dag gum!! :eek1:
Could you imagine?? How would you like to be driving along, and all of a sudden, "bloop" you fall in a hole. :hellno:

A friend of mine traveled through there yesterday and the road is now open. We don't think about sink holes much in Tennessee, especially on a major interstate highway.

cool, they got that straght really quick

They really got right on top of this. I suppose that they didn't want to see too many trucks bypass the scale. The scale is near where this happened and they have had to detour trucks around the hole (and scale) since it happened. I hope no one drove into the hole. I haven't heard about anyone getting hurt, but it must have been a nightmare for law enforcement until they got the detour started.

from the local newspaper, right after it happened...

You may have seen this on the news; last Tuesday morning, without warning, a sinkhole 25' deep X 18' X 25'
suddenly appeared in the Eastbound lane of I-24 just a few yards West of Exit 127 at the foot of Monteagle Mountain. As it appeared, a tractor trailer was able to swerve through the median to avoid disaster, a TDOT employee happened to be following the truck and was able to stop traffic before a major catastrophic event occured. Repairs are in progress and the lanes may be reopened this weekend. Traffic has been diverted at Exit 114 on the old US 41 and back on I-24 at Exit 127.

As I was heading out of Nashville last week, overhead signs in Nashville were saying 24 was closed at Hickory rd., but they gave no reason or detour. I was heading to Minneapolis that way and just stayed on I65 all the way to Indy and then went west. I couldn't detour on any country back roads due to the high dollar load and company rules about stopping less than 200 miles after loading. I guess now I know why it was closed.

Remember back when Ohio had one drop in on I-70? That one was closed for a bit longer. But, they had had underground mining in that area. Old, abandoned mines. What was at the bottom of the one in TN?
