I just spent 3 weeks camped out on Shania's doorstep, hoping to catch a glimpse of her, only to find out it was the wrong home.
(it was a foreclosed home...no wonder it was so quiet there)

But I had better luck today. I heard Anne Hathaway was going to be cross country skiing over on Hog's Bluff.
I hid out there in a juniper bush for about 10 hours and sure enough, she finally came by with a small group.

She was wearing an orange snow suit, oakley sunglasses, and a cashmere scarf. They were going pretty fast.
I'm sure it was her because I recognized her squeal of joy, after she gained so much speed on the downslope.
Only saw her for like 10 seconds, though. I shouldn't have picked a spot on such a steep slope.

It was so cold today, my left leg was frostbit from sitting on it so long, and was like dragging a dead log on the hike out.
Took me until past dark to hobble the 3 miles back to my truck....but it was worth it.
I would have liked seeing her for 30 or 40 seconds... but it's all good.

Mat, go find yourself an Army/Navy surplus store. Don't go for the new looking stuff in plastic wrap. That's "marketing" chit that no one in the military ever used. Look for the old "olive drab" surplus equipment. It is very cheap.... and has worked for our military for years!

I can't do any of the money transfers to mentioned. But, go FIND some stuff like I mentioned, total it up, and let me know what you need. If I can help (again) I will send you some money Western Union. I still HAVE my tent, backpack, mess kit, knife, compass and other things from when I first found that I needed them. You MIGHT even offer to do some WORK for the owner to get a complete "outfit" at a decent BULK price!

As for getting away from the truckstops, or being more independant.... You HAVE considered what so many others have done, right? That is.... buy some stuff and shine chrome for HONEST wages! I would do that before panhandling.

Well, first there is the Homestead Act. I know for a fact that there are thousands of acres of land in Colorado near San Luis that is available for homesteading as long as you build a BARN or something to "improve" the land. Free HORSES, too! Pitch tent, build a barn, raise horses and watch the sunrise over the valley. I've thought about doing it myself!

"Improving" government land is HARD work. But, if you aren't afraid of hard work, there are lands available out there.

Yeah that was my plan was to checkout an army navy store.

I like the homsteading idea too, I am most certainly going to look into that.

Sofar I have managed to stay afloat doing computer work for others, but again that has just been covering smokes and food.

I wouldn't buy the canvas gear. That stuff is heavy, and the seams need to be sealed often, and the material has to be flame/water proofed every year. Canvas rots, then comes apart easy.

For a tent, go to any Outfitters. Look for a decent "popup" tent on sale. Much better design, easy to set up, even in wind and rain, and they zip up, so you won't get snakes, bugs and armadillos settling in with you at night drinking your beer.

I was riding my Hog cross country sleeping on the ground next to my bike at night. I can tell you lots of interesting stories about that practice. :D
Once in Montana, I woke up with a humongous Timber Rattler. Granted, I've woke up in the morning next to much scarier creatures, right here in Mitchegun. :lol:
