Taxes

This is the first year since I started driving that I have not had an otr job. I return to the DC just about everyday so I don't think that I qualify for the standard meal allowance and sure don't for the hotel/overnight.

Help! How do I do my taxes this year? Do I get to take the allowance for the nights I actually spent out on the road or not since I return to my place of business 4 out of 5 nights per week?

You may want to check with a tax professional that specializes in working with drivers. You should be able to take the daily per diem allowance for those days that you are out of town. You can go to the IRS website and check the publication concerning this for yourself. I believe the address is www.irsforms.com. They have the forms and instructions for all of their forms.

If your out and you have to take a mandated 10hr break then you take that day as 1 per Diem day BUT you also can claim the day you left home and the day you get back but at a " partial day" or simply put 3/4 of a per diem day. Don't forget the per deim rate changed from 85% of$52 per day to $59 per day as of Oct 1 ( I think) best to check with a tax pro!
