greetings

i'm jon mcclain. i'm out of raleigh, nc. i was looking to hire a driver and managed to find this site. still looking for a driver, but have made some good friends along the way. been driving for 20 yrs. finally bought myself a freightshaker and now i want to show a few other people that there is money to be made out here still if we could all just use our god given minds and, like they say, refuse the crappy freight. Lil. but seriously, well I'm serious about that too. but life is too short to live to work. so i want to enjoy it too. stop and smell a few flowers. I'm single, never been married, no kids, well i have 3 drum sets that I've always referred to as my kids and i have a car that takes all my money...so that must be close to a wife. at least as I'm told. . I'm looking to live, learn, and to grow. and bring as many people as i can along the way just like the ones who taught me did me. I'm a big goofball and i like to try to find fun in every situation.

waiting and wondering

Hey all! I'm Shannon! I'm from southeast Louisiana and am the wife of a man who just left for training with swift...I know , I know 3 week wonder school but its one of the few that would accept him and offered the training so here we are. he's gone and I'm curious is this gonna be as hard as my minds making it out to be or is the money gonna be as good as people say it is anyhoo...this site has been very helpful and I think its great. I'm all of 24 years and quite wise or so I say anyway so if anyone has any advice I could use I'd appreciate it.

Hi! I'm John from Dayton, Oh. I'm 63 (soon to be 64) and retired from driving in 2003.
I'm divorced and have 3 kids (ages 36, 34 and 32).
I check in here and other forums to keep up with the trucking world. Every now and then I get the urge to go back OTR but I have a few beers and the feeling goes away. I still have my class A but did drop the HM. I still drive part time every now and then but mostly I am just enjoying retirement.

Everyone stay safe out there.

Hey, I just got back from a winter road trip three weeks ago, never had the experience before and I hope never again. 150 miles took 12 hours, one lake alone took over 2 hours to cross as you are limited to under 10 miles an hour. The road that isn't on the ice is just a trail that has been cut out of the bush and muskeg, no filling of bumps and potholes there I'll tell you. top speed never over 15 MPH, thank goodness the pay is by the hour after you leave the pavement.

hey Tom-You running the Ice roads to the Mines/???
Let me know when to contact them for next year-Ran Iraq i can run NWT :P

No it was just one trip, 6 trucks, into an Indian reserve with a steel building for spring set up. We have a couple of companies that run into the NWT and the north of the different provinces up here with fuel and supplies but for us it was just a one time deal. I HOPE!!!

Hey-I used to run Up to Hay River and i LOVED it--only thing about it which sucked was having to drive through Edmonton and Calgary on Hwy 2??(is that the Highway??)
Delivered a load to a farmer in Fahler(Totally French speaking town) and He had me back into his Barn--Told his wife to draw me a BATH and then Fed me--It was Totally awesome but sadly a very RARE occurence.
Edmonton and Calgary were growing SOOOOOO fast in the 80's that everytime you went through them it changed.

I'm Bob Solberg. I'm living in upstate New York, been here around 12 years now. I build choppers for a hobby, just love showing them at shows. Have a daughter in Manhatten NY (25 yrs) and a son here (20). Widower. Looking to spend lots of time OTR. I found this site just by chance and I had to share with my class at CDL school. I lived most of my earlier years as a military brat in Europe and Asia. then I have been all over the USA as a hitchhiker , then later as a hobo. I also have riden a large part of our roads as a biker. Last few years I rode around 20,000 or 30,000 miles a year on old chopper. I figured shucks gosh darnit to who. I might as well get paid for doing what I love doing.
