What do you think???

I been at my job next month for 2 years with no raise. I was thinking about hitting bossman up and telling him i want more money. (in a nice way). But with the economy the way it is i feel i may come off looking like a azzhole asking for a raise. So what would you do??

Two years without a raise is quite a long time. On the other hand, You should be lucky you still have a job. That is a tough situation to be in. I say ask him. What is the worst he can say? Except, Mackman I am gonna need your keys. Jose is going to drive your truck from now on. When I told my boss I was quitting he offered me $2 an hour more to stay. Could he afford it? Yes. Did he think I was worth it? Yes. Would he have offered it if I hadnt told him I was quitting? Hell No!!!

No harm in asking. Doesnt mean you'll get it. You know the market and your worth, both to him and to another employer, better than we do. But in general they dont usually fork it over if you dont ask and even when you do ask they blow you off and hope you'll let it go. Then when you quit cause you found something better they say "whats the problem"? "We could've worked it out, c'mon lets talk".

I would mention it. I would bring up the fact that the price of living is going up. Fuel prices climb, but the pay is the same. I would bring it up, but of course in a nice way.

We are in a deflationary cycle. Your boss is probably faced with declining rates & revenue. Many people are losing hours, wage cuts are not unheard of right now. I just cut the rent for my tenants because there are so many vacant units it's driving local rental prices down.

It might not hurt to ask, but I wouldn't count on it.

Deflationary Cycle, indeed...

That has to be one of the most tactful terms for a depression I've ever heard. There are still more places getting boarded up, and even one place that I used to stop at and eat is now closed. (Last trip into IN, I stopped and ate there.) And, most people around here that are still working don't know if they'll have a job next week. Everybody's on the edge.

You can ask for a raise, but...

I am in the same boat Mack. I have been with the company for 3 years and 3 months and haven't seen a raise since roughly my one year mark. Personally, I am holding off on asking because there are so many out of work drivers out here willing to replace me at a lower pay rate than what I am making. And he has been trying to keep costs at a bare minimum that it isn't even funny anymore. Heck we had one of our laborers quit this week and it doesn't sound like he is going to replace him, so now we are down to 2 drivers, 2 laborers and a foreman, which sucks because now we have to pick up even more slack and we were stretched pretty thin before. But with unemployment rates sky high and rising, we will suck it up and get the work done.

Now, when things pick up, then yes I am asking for a decent raise, and it better not be none of this 25 to 50 cents crap either.

Talk to them. Ask them what their plans are with the current economic conditions and as it relates to their drivers; whether they plan to downsize, hire more, or stay where they are at and about their wages. It might sound rather "brassy" but it shows an interest through their prospective and you can let them know yours as well.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think i may wait alittle longer. Only cuz of what happen the other week. http://www.classadrivers.com/forum/anything-everything/38082-what-bad-week.html When i cost bossman some money.

But overall we get along great. I go out and ride harleys with him like once a month. (i know what a suck up). So i do think he would give it too me. I will let you know what he says when i ask. I would like to see 1.00/hr or more.
