Pay attention..

Ya know, on highway 82 in west Texas, there isn't hardly any traffic. Most nights, I can drive 30-45 miles and not see anyone. There are the cow trucks and hopper bottoms during the times of year that they are busy, and the LTL line-haul guys, but that's about it.
Anyway, last night, I was out there in no-man's land on my way back from Lubbock. It was around 11:30 or so. This truck, heading west had his brights on. I hit mine. He still had his on. I waited a few seconds, and I flashed mine again. Nothing doing. I hit mine the 3rd time, and I left them on. He finally dimmed his lights, when we were about a 1/4 mile apart. He came on the radio, and he said, "Driver, you trying to blind me!?" I said, "Dag gum man, what was it gonna take you to dim your lights?" He said, "I guess I forgot I had my brights on." I came back and said, "How did you forget you had your brights on? Aint you got that little light on your dash?" He said, "You can't tell me that you sometimes forget you got your brights on." I said, "I very seldom run mine on bright, so I wouldn't know." He called me a smart -you-know-what- and he called me everything but a white man, and I just squelched him out.

Man. I understand how it is when you get tired, but please be courteous, and pay attention. They have that "high beams" indicator light on the dash for a reason. I have 4-wheelers forget to dim their lights every once in while. A lot of trucks I see run their brights on, but they dim them when they are supposed to.
Yall ever come across guys like that?

In 4 wheelers, yes, trucks no. They call the indicator on the dash a Dummy light for a reason. After the first flash I would have checked to make sure I hadn't forgot they were on.

I can't see my high beam light, it is obscurred by the steering wheel because of how low I sit. I think you could cut the guy a break, but I also know how frustrating some guys can be when they do not pay attention. I also can't see the light telling me the drives are locked either, oh the panic that causes when you see that going down the road.

Why be like the Jones's

In my opinion two wrongs never make a right.........in most cases when you show your anger someone else will aslo....giving someone a break might have been better... just what if he was in a mood to commit harry karry...........took you both out...........now who would have said pay attention?.......some dim lights blind me.......i look to the white line for just a min and look back up to pay attention... to keep the blinding effect away.. glad you made it through..............take care and i hope no one makes you ill enough to do that again... remember that you might have blinded him also and met on the middle......take care drive safe..........and try to forgive someones mistake if it don't cost you anything.....hell he might be the only one on that road when you need a partner.......

i dont like it as much as the next guy when a 4 wheeler or any vehicle, leaves his brights on, but nothing really to make a big deal about, next time it might be me forgetting that my brights are on..........

I would have pulled over on the side of the road, went back into the sleeper, curled up into the fetal position, and wept uncontrallably. Oh boy, how were you able to deal with this situation.

mike3fan, that's the same way with my water temp guage. I sit on the floor, and I move my head to the left, when I check my water temp. Same way in a 359. The top of the steering wheel is right where the turn signal indicator lights are..

fatboytenn, there are some 4-wheelers now that have bright dim lights. I've flashed my brights at some of them. They flash their's right back, and I think, "dang, nevermind". Pickups, pulling trailers, too.
The new 389, and slopenose Petes have some bright lights.

My favorite is those prix that have that brand new ford or chevy pickup truck with brand new bright lights and theres nothing you can really do cuz you know their bright just cuz their new, to add to it they gotta use their fog lights and theres no fog!! See a few of us truckers (not me) do it once in a while too, whats the point of using your fog lights if theres no fog, if you cant see use your brights, just dim them when a vehicle approaches you from your front.
