Remember the men of the 1st/502nd tomorrow

My son and the other fallen 101st Airborne "five oh deuce" troops lost in this last deployment to Iraq will have their monument and names unveiled tomorrow at Ft Campbell. Please take a moment for them tomorrow and thank them for their sacrifice. Work will keep me from this one, but my wife is as we speak being picked up at the Nashville airport by an escort (one of my son's NCO's) and a driver (My son's best friend). We didn't get to meet either of these fine men as they were in a security detachment and had to stay on the ground in Iraq for a couple more weeks. We here there to see everyone else come home, hug the hell out of them and thank them for being there for my son. These are better men than I ever will be.

A small offering of respect to the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice...we will never know what they saw and went through. I suspect there will be a monument dedicated to them in heaven, too. I can only imagine the emotions that will be flowing at the unveiling. I would love to go to an event like that to give my respects. I'm sorry you have to work. My heart goes out to your wife - she must be so strong.

Here is a photo of the monument that was unveiled yesterday. There were all of my sons friends and several families from the fallen from previous deployments. We are all basically familyhttp://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...K/Monument.jpg

This is a map of Baghdad and the area where these men served and lost their lives. Note the Gold stars, these are all incidents where those on the monuments were lost

#3 is where my son lost his life just a few short days than a year ago (Feb,242008). This was kind of a gut shot and I've been pretty down all day but it is bittersweet. To know exactly where your son was lost is a lot less than families in previous conflicts get. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3.../Monument3.jpg

Your son was a great man. That comes from upbringing.

Fozzy,

Those pics can NEVER be TOO big. We owe every inch of space to your son and all of those who who gave their all. May God bless you and your family during these troubled times.

Jeff
