What a winter so far

Is this winter ever going to end? Just finished up a big winter storm that encompassed 2/3rds of the country and there's another one that's supposed to hit the east coast the first of next week.

Global warming? Not anyplace I've been the past 3 or 4 months.

I was just reading that, the area I'm in (NW corner of AL) may get up to 8"...

Damn...milk sandwiches again!

That's called "climate change", and your buddy (and mine) Al Gore is trying to stop it. All he needs is 800 million dollars of the stimulus money, and it will all go away.

We've had our usual mild winter, but this week, we had ice on Monday, and Tuesday.
I know that we don't exactly always have 10 inches on the ground, but when we do get bad weather, it's usually solid black ice. I don't care who you are, black ice aint funny. :p
They had more snow out west.(Tx) I was able to run faster, the further west I went. I reckon the snow was able to help the traction. That ice is bad stuff. These pictures were taken anywhere from 50-70 miles west of Wichita Falls. (I run a 400 mile trip every night.) It got dark not long after I took the pictures.
Here are some pictures that I took with my phone. Not the best, but oh well.

This one was taken when I was coming into Benjamin, Tx.
That is snow covering the ice.

Here is another one with sleet/snow on top of that ice.
I was able to run 45-50 mph, but not much faster.
This was outside of Guthrie, Tx.

On this one, to the left, that is a truck rolled over.
I forgot to zoom in, but I was wanting to take a quick picture.
May not look like much, but that was solid ice.
I could only run about 35mph. Anytime I tried to gain anymore speed, I was sliding around.
I was coming into Seymour, Tx.

i got a taste of that ice storm in dfw. it sucked big time. i slid a couple of times while making a very slow right turn. once the steer tires hit the black ice, i could no longer steer. once the drive tires hit the ice, i thought i was going to go into the ditch. the only thing that stopped me from doing so was the curb. the place i picked up from had a nasty sheet of ice. i was making a u-turn on it in order to get to the dock. i got stuck halfway through the u-turn. it wasn't fun at all.

on my way along us287, i slid a little bit on a couple patches of black ice. once i got to wichita falls, i decided to call it an early day. i shut down at the flying j there. it was also a good opportunity to have a friend come out from sheppard afb to hang out with for a bit.

all in all, i'd rather drive on top of packed snow, thick ice, slush, through puddles of water, and dust storms.

a year ago, i was sent on a relocation trip from phoenix to salt lake city. here's what i drove on with an empty trailer and 5-10mph crosswinds:

i'll drive on that stuff any day. not black ice, though. forget that!
