Bah...

I absolutely hate it when I do something new... This morning I was pulling out of a dock, which had a dumpster sitting in the dock next to me. The dumpster was maybe 2" from my open trailer door after I backed in.

When I pulled out, I clipped the dumpster with the door and ripped 2 hinges off, bent one, leaving only the top hinge holding the door. Luckily the door itself wasn't damaged. It just destroyed the 2 hinges.

Over eight years of driving, putting my trailer into some of the worst spots you could think of and I do this...

Sorta kills the day, doesn't it?

Yea that dings the ego a lil

Sorry to hear about it, Malaki...

Look at the bright side...the door stayed attached to the trailer...would have been a bummer to have to hoist that thing off the ground...:eek1:

Some of the chains that hold the doors open have plenty of slack. I carry a couple of tarp straps to take up that slack. Keeps my doors from catching things like that. You're not the first guy to do something like that, and you won't be the last.

How about a local driver for one of the big freight companies that doesn't realize the right door on his trailer came unhooked, and when he hit the dock, the door hit the ground? He broke every hinge off. The patch on his shirt said 24 years.

A few years ago, I also got to see a Mexican jump down off the dock to pick up his cell phone, while a truck was backing in. He didn't make it. That driver felt a great deal worse than you do.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Did the same thing a couple of years ago with my brand spankin' new trailer.........:tears: The place was wide open and I hit the only dumpster next to the dock..... Most of the nurseries I pull out of, you need to be a magician to back in....... at one is a blind side slightly uphill s-curve...... no fun.. even after doing this dozens of times.............

2 things I did with my 48' Trailmobile that really hurts the ego,pulled away from the dock at a GM plant with the mechanical hook still attached(no light) and on a 4 lane road I had been down 100's of times in Rochester,NY had one side closed and traffic diverted to the other side,well apparently going in the opposite direction the bridge wasn't quite 13'6"......oops. Only smashed the top corner down about 2 inches but I knew it was there and bugged the crap out of me.

Those dumpsters used to be my worst nightmare when I was delivering. Every restaurant, nursing home, etc has dumpsters out there by the back door, somewhere.
I clipped a dumpster one time when I was backing into an alley off a side street. I tapped the corner of the dumpster with the trailer. (that square tubing on the bottom, on the back) Luckily, there are scrapes, scratches on the back of our trailers anyhow, I couldn't tell I hit anything. So, I unloaded, and went on with my route, but I hated those dumpsters.

I was just wondering if he reported it or paid for it out of his pocket? I would pay it out of my own pocket and not report it.
