I want to record the road while I drive. I have seen this talked about here before but I dont want a full size hand held I want something that will be no more intruive to my view then say the prepass box. I want to be able to edit etc and put on a web page. I like the size of the smart drive cam but dont want both sides(driver and road) If you have exp with this and care share plz respond or pm me

Just get a webcam, and record to your hard drive.

I'd love to have a webcam hooked to my system. But, I'd want it to record automatically by monitoring the GPS. If the truck starts moving, start recording in a loop, say 30 minutes. Then, when the truck stops, the recording stops.

I was thinking of using a web cam but not sure if I need to buy a external HD with more space due to the amount of video I want to capture in one setting. I use to be a tech junkie but have fallen from grace :P

Making it GPS dependent sounds like a neat idea if I figure it out I will let you know Malaki86.

How are you liking the new GPS system Malaki86? Im looking for a new one but all the ones that state "Trucker friendly" just dont hit the spot for me I seen you at http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/software-discussions/ and ended up DL S&T 2009 which to my surprise is pretty good IMO.

Thanks guys

I use both CoPilot Truck 9 and iGuidance 2004. iGuidance is suprisingly good when you select for it to use major routes.

Do you know city and state buses have webcams? And they sell the parts.

If you can find them, those little snake camera's are very unintrusive. You know, the one's you see in the movies?

The police use those snake cams. http://www.propertyroom.com/
I had an idea awhile back to use the snake cam in the coolant manifold. I looked into the price new and I did not buy one. But if you can find one used then that would save you some money.

A standard webcam is not going to fill your hard drive any time soon if you use the right compression settings. And there is software out there that could control the recording based on GPS movement. I have a similar setup, where I had approximate GPS recording (I didn't want it live and accurate, so I made it so it was 5 minutes delayed and up to 3 miles off on the live GPS data view), although I kept the live stream up live parked or not, but I could of just as easily controlled it with the GPS to stop/start recording. I recorded an entire stretch of driving from Denver to LA (70 to 15), and it only took up about 300 mb of space.
