Trucking news: House votes to terminate US-Mexico cross-border trucking pilot program

WASHINGTON—Weeks after the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced that that the highly-controversial cross-border trucking pilot program between the United States and Mexico would be extended for two years, it appears that the program may be permanently hitting the brakes.


Yesterday, the House of Representatives voted by a 395-18 margin to terminate the cross-border trucking pilot program immediately

I see at 2 from VA voted to keep this program alive. :evil: They will be getting an email.

When a bill is sent to committee, 3 things can happen: they can approve the bill, they can modify it and send it back to the House for their approval, or they can sit on it and kill it it with inaction.

Considering it is a election year, I assume they will sit on it.

Well I sent some email, be interested to see what I get back. I know the 2 from the Senate will respond, they have done so in the past. Just reminded them that it is not a good idea to let this program pass thru.

Not sure about the 1 from the House that represents my district. Didn't bother with the other one in the House that voted against ending the program.

If any of those "inside the beltway" idiots, regardless of party, had ever actually seen a Mexican truck with their own two eyes this program would have never seen the light of day in the first place. In the '90s I ran a dedicated route for a while, from NC to Brownsville, TX. Take the raw material down, go back later and return with the finished product. Those rolling dumpsters those Mexicans drove scared me! I would have to cross into the commerce zone or whatever it was called 3 miles inside Mexico, dump the trailer and bobtail out...and I hoped I would come out in one piece!

i think gordo's right, i can't find it anywhere in the senate committee on commerce, science, and transportation. i did find the subcommittee that would handle it, their members are listed here. maybe your emails would be better directed at those senators.

Interesting web site. I quickly read 2 articles of business the committee had: opening statements on Halliburton and the sanctions on Iran and the opening statements on Chinese sweatshops.
Interesting indeed, although most probably knew it was happening anyway.
