Lubbock declared disaster area - 100-yr Flood event

I hope nobody is heading towards West Texas. They expect rain to continue through Sunday. I-27 is closed as are some of the spur/bypasses. They say that Ike is not letting the system move and are expecting more rain here than Houston is getting from. The mayor just held a press conference to tell people to stay in their houses unless it is a life-threatening. This is going all across the South Plains and from Dickens, TX to Seminole,TX and into Lea County, New Mexico. Just letting people know. I know that not a lot of drivers hit this area but everyone is going crazy so I don't think anyone is safe on the roads around here right now!

  I feel bad for you.....Ya know that....But ........
They are calling for 8 foot of water here where my house sits..before IKE hits land. They just called the house phone and left a flood advisory. Port Arthur is expected to see first "over-topping" of the flood-wall by noon tomorrow. That wall is 16 foot tall! Elevation here at the house is 24 feet...but only 1/2 mile from Adams Bayou....2 miles from Cow Bayou and the Sabine River, 4 miles from Sabine Lake...sigh.......I prayed and prayed that Mexico was gonna get Ike'ed! :? :? :?

So many people left to run outta Houston area...east is the better "run away" choice than west is.

I will know Saturday evening how bad it is.

LOL...you gotta watch out fer all them Evacuee's!!! Lot's gonna be zooming in tomorrow late!!

Don't come this-a way! You could try...but I don't think you could do it..unless your flying a FEMA tag in da winder.

My thoughts are with you Stan. I was there after Rita with a T/T load of chain-saws and decided to hand around a bit and help out. Headed back out and brought back a load of water and stayed again. Big difference between Tx. and NO. In NO it was " why don't somebody do something"...In Tx it was " if you will get out of my way, I'll show you how to move that tree".

Never question a redneck with a chainsaw, a 4wd and chain. :P

i was originally shooting for houston. decided not to since i had to refuel at the t/a off of exit 583. my intuition told me not to go. i'm glad i didn't because it's likely my ass would have been forced to turn around. i saw quite a few evacuation buses from the southern parts of this state coming and going here.
