How do you know when your tired?

How do you know when your tired? One of major indicator of when I'm tired is I tend to talk a lot and I'm normally a quiet shy person! I tend to talk about everything under the sun until I annoy people.  :P  One thing I do to overcome fatigue is to walk around and stretch. Like right now I'm tired and I'm starting yet another pointless topic.

I know I'm tired when I fight to keep one eye open, while I'm mowing down small sapplings, mailboxes and running opposing cars off the road. What I do is speed up more, as it gives me more steering control, and I get to where I need faster. I sometimes have to use the johnson brake to straighten the trailer out.

My best indicator, is when I stop arguing out loud over imaginary conflicts.

I know I'm tired when I start thinking that maybe going back to OTR wouldn't be such a bad idea.

Malaki86 09-09-2008 12:57 PM

I always know I'm too tired to drive when the little guy who lives inside my drivers mirror pops out, taps me on the head and tells me to pull over and get a little sleep.

Creek Jackson 09-09-2008 04:54 PM

I know that I am getting tired when I can no longer see. Because my eyes are closed.

NotSteve 09-09-2008 07:38 PM

Being dehydrated can cause you to be tired also. It's your bodies way of telling you to slow down by making you tired. Drink a few glasses of water and take a walk around the truck. Listening to the news or music will wake you up also.

Your brain is the only thing that needs sleep, the body can go on forever with just food and water. Keeping the brain active will keep you from getting tired.

When your brain gets tired it slows down your breathing in preparation for sleep. The bodies natural reaction to you not breathing enough is to make you yawn and suck in lots more air.

How do I know this? I don't have a clue. Just random useless facts.

How do I know if I'm tired?
My eyes get sore... I start looking and double checking to make sure I didn't miss my exit... Was that light red or green when I went through it... I have to close one eye so that I can only see one road ahead, instead of two... Things like that normally tell me it's time to take a break.

Syncrosonix 09-09-2008 09:38 PM

when i'm driving at night time and the road seems to be an endless tunnel. that's when i hit up an off-ramp or rest area to nap for a couple hours. i drive mostly throughout the night.

Double R 09-10-2008 12:53 AM

When I start seeing things that are not there I know it is time to pull over and take a nap.

Double R and I both seem to suffer these experiences...Must be something in the asphalt of the PA Pike....

When I'm SERIOUSLY TIRED, I begin to see overhead bridges that dont exist, small animals run across the road, and one night about a month ago, I think I saw the devil walking from the center barrier towards the shoulder of the road...

Needless to say, I pulled over...

Also, trying to cheat by keeping one eye open and one shut, just doesnt work..Next thing you know, both will be closed and you really dont want that. Its not worth risking the next 40 years of your career. Just pull over and take a nap.

When I start doing this... its time to pull over...

Once, I thought the clutch was slipping and I wondered where I could have it adjusted. Turns out, I had missed a shift and was merely coasting.

When you look around and realize you can't remember how you got there? Time to stop.

golfhobo 09-11-2008 06:51 PM

When I start yawning and can't get my mouth to close! The yawn is over, but the jaws won't shut!

Also, about this time, I realize I'm off the cruise control and doing about 55 in a 75!!

That's when I pull over, cuz if I don't, the truck will do it for me!

This has happened to me TWICE. 5 of us hauled some trailers up into Iowa and were bobtailing back. I hadn't slept good the night befor and was a TAD BIT tired. As I looked at the back of the truck in front of me (it was dark) I swear that his tail lights, mudflaps and everything back there looked like a giant bat. The second time I was coming across I-40 just into Az from N.M. and I swear the big rock on the north side of the road had moved ACROSS the road.

Been there done that.

Easy: the second or third time I hear the rumble strip under my left drives is usually a dead giveaway.

GMAN 09-15-2008 02:02 PM

I know that I am to tired when I wake myself up snoring.
